The phone is held in place by a lip on the front. I took a measurement right behind that lip, and it measures 4" in the front and 6" in the back.
This drawer has a small metal bar running behind it to prevent it from falling out from behind. The backside, however, is completely open.
It is skewed, to be sure. It's a very appealing angle to me.
The drawer can be taken out.

This product holds my work phone well. The drawer, on the other hand, is a letdown. I feel like I can't put anything in it because when I pull it out, it drops down and everything falls out. There's nothing there to stabilize it when you pull it out to put things in it or take things out of it, so it just drops down.
At work, I needed more space on my desk. This is an excellent solution! Not only did I gain some extra space by being able to store some, but I also gained a sense of accomplishment. Things are in the drawer under the phone, but it isn't angled in a way that I can see it. This telephone stand is one of my favorites because the metal is elegant, sturdy, and easy to clean. I need to keep track of a Smartboard remote, which fits perfectly next to the phone in this stand.
I've only had this item for a few days, but I'm really enjoying it. It's one of those items that you didn't realize you needed until you started using it. It's easier to see because your phone is tilted and at eye level. A scratch pad and pen will fit perfectly in the drawer with removable partition. It appears to be of good quality, and I anticipate that it will serve me well for many years.
I could easily see myself swapping jobs with it. I wish there was more room for the cord in the section at the bottom where the phone is located; it's quite inconvenient when my phone is knocked off the hook. Aside from that, everything is fine. I could see myself using it as a podium to hold my notebook or cookbook while working instead of its current function.
The unit is slid all over the desk and needs to be propped up. Because there were no stops on the drawer, it slid completely out of the slot when it was opened.
This stand is ideal for keeping all of the items you'll need near the phone together. It's well-made and ready to use when you get it. I strongly suggest it, but double-check that it will fit in your space before ordering.
The cord hangs in front of the drawer, making it difficult to pull it out. Because the drawer pulls all the way out, you'll need to secure it with a long zip tie.
Good purchase; however, a notch to keep the phone cord out of the way would be preferable. The drawer also pulls all the way out, which is a little inconvenient, but it is otherwise very useful.
