When my students are in class, I use this bell to get their attention. It was too loose since I received the bell in the mail, so I had to drill a new hole for the screw to connect the handle to the bell. I bought the bell a few weeks ago and it has become extremely unsteady since then. After a long separation, it finally broke apart today. I cannot use it because I cannot hear it from the bell. One star for both sound and appearance, three stars for both This product has been rated a star. We use it constantly to call the kindergarteners to their transition times. It may be meant to be gently rung here and there, but we use it every day. Ringing the bell is a very carefully done job, and most of the children take turns. My handle fell off while we were still in school on August 1, so I was here to order a replacement bell. While it is fixable, I would have to spend as much on enough wood glue as I would have to buy a new bell (but I can fix the other one as a backup). There is nothing annoying about the bell. It is nice and loud without being too loud. The only thing I wish was that it wasn't being replaced.

We used it to potty train our dog to ring a wall-mounted bell near the door after going to the bathroom.
