These were used to keep a glued pine top on my workbench in place. On the rails, I used a table saw to cut a 1/8" wide, 1/2" deep channel about 1/2" from the table top. I ended up using slightly larger truss head screws (as shown in the photo) to replace the screws that came with it. Because of the gusset on the bracket, neither screw sat flat on the bracket, but the truss head screws seemed to grab and seat more securely.
For years, I've used these clips to secure various types of furniture tops. They perform admirably. I either use my table saw to cut the slot in the skirt (one pass with a blade with a. I either use my plate joiner or a 1" kerf kerf. This particular package represents excellent value. They appear to be the same clips that I've purchased for a higher price. This package simply gives you more bang for your buck. I don't use the screws that come with my top if it's made of a very hard wood like maple. Instead, I use a nut driver to drive the screws. It saves a great deal of time and effort.
These are fantastic; however, it would be helpful if they specified where the dado should be run (3/8 - 1/4 inch). It would be nice if it were 1/2 inch) from the edge; some trial and error is required to truly dial these in.
Fastening a tabletop to the base/apron is a breeze with these clips. They allow solid wood to move with the seasons while keeping the top firmly attached to the base. To speed up the process and achieve a professional look, I used a Festool Domino DF 500 with a 4mm bit to cut the slots in the aprons. I'm sure I'll order a few hundred more.
It's simple to use, and it's significantly less expensive and of comparable quality to other Z Clips I've purchased. It comes highly recommended.
It's a little tricky to get them in between the planks, but once they're in place, they look fantastic.
The clips were excellent and sturdy, but avoid using the screws if possible. Two of them were stripped, while the other three were broken. There was no rhyme or reason for it because everyone used the same technique and settings. br>As a workaround, this added an additional hour to the labor. Because my speed out screw extractors were too small, they didn't work. br>In the end, I used my kreg screws and washers. If you have the opportunity to do so, I strongly advise you to do so.
This is truly amazing. I just wish the screws were a little bigger. They don't seem to have a strong enough grip on the tabletop. They're great apart from that.
