Yes, but that would cause the unit's center of gravity to increase, making it much more top heavy and liable to tip. It does not take long for the file drawer to fill up.

The only thing I don't like is that the drawers don't have stops at the back so they can be pushed in and pulled out from behind, It would be better for the drawers to stop at the back, but I can live with that.
