The purpose for which I have been using this is not the intended one (besides fun around the house, I wanted to use it for some photo stuff). I find that it's not as bright as I would like when used for that purpose, but for our home uses the brightness is fine. ****Once charged over a micro-USB cable, it is not that bright. This is easy to control with the touch sensitive buttons. It features a USB port (on the left side of the back, not where you would expect another screw to be) that's easy to miss. The 'karaoke' feature on this device does not work very well. For this to work adequately, you would need to have very loud music playing.

This is what I got my kids for their birthdays, and they loved The video has to be played overnight for the children to go to sleep. Despite not knowing what to expect, the display is brighter than expected. As much as I would like to keep the device out of harm's way, I have a bit of anxiety about dropping it. There is nothing else I could compare it to, so I can't comment on the colors. I do agree that the light is not as bright as I would like, so I initially hoped the device would be.
