Questions & Answers

Is the size of this shredder suitable for use at home? The measurements appear to be quite substantial. This is for someone who shreds a small amount of paper a few times per week. ?

It's a little bigger than your average home shredder, but I really like it. This is a good model to buy if you shred several times per week. Only don't use the cellophane windows to shred junk mail envelopes. They melt as the shredder heats up during use, causing the shredder to clog. That was a hard lesson for me to learn. Aside from that, this machine is fantastic!

On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your relationship? The loudest numbers are 5 and 5. What is the level of acoustic turbulence?

5 if you have a small, inexpensive shredder at home. This one has a score of two. Even though I have a direct line of sight at a 15-foot distance, this is located in a cube farm and isn't offensive.

What is the number of sheets required?

It's supposed to take 15 sheets, according to the advertisement. However, the number of sheets required is determined by the thickness of each sheet.

How long do you think these shredders will last?

I've had one model for the past six years, while another has only been with me for four months. It all depends on how well it's cared for and how good it was to begin with. The simple answer is that no one knows.

Selected User Reviews For Fellowes Powershred 99Ci 18-Sheet Capacity, 100% Jam Proof Cross-Cut Paper Shredder

There is only ONE complaint! br> I purchased this shredder to replace a ten-year-old shredder
4/5

heavy-duty staples from the old Staples The Fellows were chosen based on reviews found here and elsewhere on the Internet, and I assigned them to a duty unit in my home office. This Fellows shredder does exactly what it says on the tin. Excellent value for money. It was dead silent. Effective. Safe; I don't have to worry about my necktie getting caught and dragging me to my death. br>br>Now, for that ONE complaint, I have two suggestions. The bin's plastic bag is at the center of it all. br>br>[1] Put your money in a savings account. br> If you want to buy a bag, don't buy one from Fellows. The bags appear to be a bit tougher than most plastic bags based on the sample bags sent with the shredder, but at 21 per bag, there is a more cost-effective alternative. For example, we use.

Garbage
3/5

Fellowes Powershred 99Ci replacement for previous Fellowes Powershred 99Ci, which served as a workhorse for 6 years. br>br>New unit's basket is a shambles. Instead of molded plastic, the new basket is made of plastic card board that is held together by push-together buttons that are already failing after only two weeks.

CASTER SOCKETS THAT HAVE BEEN WORN OUT! The connection between the casters and their sockets at the shredder's plastic base is so poor and minimally designed that the plastic around the socket has cracked, making my new shredder, which is otherwise fine, extremely difficult to move, even on my smooth floor
3/5

Because the shredder head is so heavy, it's possible that the plastic base near the fractured socket gave way. I believe that for such an expensive item, there should be a guarantee of a return if the product is defective.

If you're shredding a lot of paper, it's well worth the money
5/5

When I looked into it, I discovered a slew of negative feedback. Why am I slapping my head? It's precisely what I was looking for - This works great for shredding reams of old paper (boxes). I underestimated the number of sheets required. It *can* fit a regular kitchen trash bag inside (it must be stretched over two corners), but I've found that it's easier to just remove the bin when it's full and dump into a large garden trash bag. br>br>I strongly advise you to use the recommended "performance oil" - Approximately every 1/2 load, I squirt a small amount along the top. When it comes to getting full, br>br> It has a habit of displaying fullness when it isn't - It makes no difference; simply open the container and press the shreds down. It has a lot of capacity. It isn't particularly noisy for such a powerful shredder. I can shred while watching TV. I've been using it for a while now. Other lower-end shredders I've purchased have been a pain to operate. This is a simple / simple / simple / simple / simple / simple / simple / straightforward I would strongly suggest it.

A good shredder at an affordable price - as well as one that appears to be a reliable workhorse horse
5/5

This is a preliminary review; I will update it after a few months of use with this shredder. (However, so far, everything has gone well. )br>br>I have a six-year-old daughter. year- Until someone (family) put an envelope through it containing coins, and then used the forward/back buttons to 'clear the jam,' breaking several of the plastic "sweepers" (those white plastic things that, among other things, separate the blades in the cutter head and also clear paper shards as they try to wrap themselves around the cutter head). As a result, the cutter head is now frequently jamming and in desperate need of repair (although it still shreds fine). with the exception of a 5-minute break In the middle, there's a gap of about an inch). I contacted Fellowes, who informed me that the model is no longer manufactured and that no repair parts are available. (Sigh) I found two different shops that said they could probably fix it, but using one of them would cost me shipping both ways PLUS the cost of the repair. And the total exceeds the purchase price of the shredder. br>br>I was EXTREMELY happy with my previous shredder, and after looking at a dozen or so others, I "settled on" this one without hesitation. Of course, I read a lot of reviews about this shredder before ordering it, and because I prefer to "see it before I buy it," I went to a few local office supply stores to see it in person. However, none of them had one in stock to look at, so I ordered this one without waiting for my usual pre-order. inspection of the purchase (OK, so I'm very picky about items like this that I plan to keep for a long time. ) )br>br>However, after I had placed my order, I read even more reviews (both here and on other sites), and one thing in particular concerned me. Several reviewers complained about the collection basket, and at least two of them claimed it was made of cardboard (thankfully, those two were wrong. )br>br>So as soon as it arrived, I opened the box (which was undamaged) and determined that the box had been subjected to some rough handling by the USPS who delivered it. My decision was based on the fact that the shredder's head had become separated from its body. Fortunately, there was no visible damage after a quick inspection, and the two pieces snapped back together perfectly. br>br>Then I looked at the collection bin and had to laugh. It's made of the same corrugated plastic as my office's mail tubs (and, IIRC, the USPS as well). It is of a lighter gauge and does not have their steel rod frame. However, it should perform admirably in its intended role under normal conditions. Also, compared to my old 89Ci, which had a number of sharp protrusions that frequently caught and tore the collection bags when I tried to remove them, this is a MAJOR improvement. There is nothing protruding into the collection bin on this one, so bags shouldn't catch (or tear) on it. br>br>(On the subject of collection bags, shredded papers that are not in transparent bags are frequently not picked up by the recycling truck on "trash day" where I live, so I've been using clear, (unbranded) 13-inch collection bags. ) a gallon drawstring garbage bag that is a tad "over-sized" sized" for this shredder (or my old 89Ci), but which work perfectly well and cost less than $0. In quantity, there are 125 of each. There are a few on Amazon that are similar to them - "clear drawstring 13-" is a keyword to look for. trash bags of a gallon ")br>br>In the next day or so, I'll be going over it VERY carefully to make sure there were no other issues caused by it being jarred in shipping (and if there were, I'll be exchanging it for another). But it looks good so far, and I've already shredded a foot-high stack of office papers and accounting records, and the 99Ci is so much better than my old shredder that I'm EXTREMELY pleased with it. br>br>So far, the shredder has performed flawlessly, and I am ecstatic. My only minor quibble is that the paper is a little more difficult to get into the slot on this one than it was on my old 89Ci because it is "thinner" (though the same width). However, if the slot on my old shredder had been like the one on this 99Ci, no one would have been able to put an envelope containing several coins into the shredder, so perhaps this is a worthwhile upgrade. br>br>Based on my previous experience with the 89Ci (and a couple of other Fellowes shredders at my office) as well as my first impressions of this one, I would not hesitate to recommend it to family, friends, and coworkers. workers. br>br>(DON'T FORGET: MY CAVEAT STILL APPLIES: I WILL REVISE THIS REVIEW IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS WHEN I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE IT IN DEPTH. But, until that time comes, I'm very pleased with this shredder.
