In the past, I've considered using one - However, it would cover the see-through window, allowing you to see whether or not the container is full. I chose not to use one because it is simple to empty. This shredder is fantastic. In the last two years, there have been no traffic jams.
It does, in fact, slit into strips. It's a great shredder that's about an inch long, plus or minus a quarter inch wide. I've had mine for about a year and have successfully shredded five or six large bags.
My cord measures 5 feet in length.
Yes, I have shredded a labeled piece of cardboard on rare occasions. This is the best shredder I've ever purchased. I was planning on purchasing two items. Every year, there are three shredders. This shredder is one of my favorites.

This is, in my opinion, a fantastic piece. OVERVIEWbr>This is the second Aurora that I've written. When I was cleaning the blades, I broke the last one. =(It's been about ten years since I purchased the first Aurora. Aurora was the first name that came to mind when I was looking for shredders because of its high quality. The first one cost $90 and was capable of microcutting. This one had a special price of $109 on it. I put it up against the Bonsai ($70), Aurora ($90), and Boxis ($120) shredders. This one, with all of its features, seemed like a good upgrade to me. I must say, I'm glad I splashed out an extra $20. This thing is a beast of a shredder, and it'll set you back $40. THINGS TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR: br>br>THINGS TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR: br>1) My only real word of caution is to be cautious when cleaning the blades. Because wires and electronics are visible from the blades on both my previous Aurora and this one, you might want to avoid jamming something up the sides to clean out stuck paper. That's how I blew up my first Aurora, and this one has the same exposed wiring as the previous one. Aurora, in my opinion, needs to improve its electronic safeguards, and I believe this is the only flaw I'm aware of, as well as a warning to anyone considering purchasing Aurora paper shredders. PAPER FROM AROUND THE BLADES MUST BE CLEANED CAREFULLY! MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT MAKE THE SAME ERROR THAT I DID! br>br>2) This is a crosscut shredder, not a microshred shredder, so it's largely irrelevant in my opinion. It has a 1" L x 1/8" W cutting capacity. I don't believe anyone would ever attempt or succeed in piecing together a puzzle made up of hundreds of thousands of pieces - But I'm sure there's that one person out there who could and did something somewhere on the planet that led to microshred, or perhaps it came out for the most paranoid of us? I don't see why you should be concerned about the need for a microshredder; This item's shreds appear to be sufficiently finely shredded. br>br>3) Get a 5 gallon pull-out basket as soon as possible. If you can, grow in size. Although 5 gallons isn't as much as I expected, and the bin appears to be a little short, it fills up quickly. One of my advantages of the 30-minute run time may be negated because it will not take 30 minutes to fill the bin. I'm not sure how much smaller I'd like to get. Expect to carry the bin outside to your recycle bin because dumping inside will result in a mess to clean up - Paper gets all over the place. br>br>4) If I had to pick a flaw, I'd say the opening could be a little larger. I'm not able to stuff the longest envelopes down long corridors - I'll have to reverse them. It also appears to have issues getting the motor to turn on automatically at times - To turn it on, it's as if you have to shove the paper all the way down in your mouth. Single ripped, floppy pages and crinkled receipts make this more noticeable. Neither is a big deal. Breakers are just minor annoyances that I imagine people might have. br>br>BENEFITS OF THIS SHREDDER OVER MY PREVIOUS AURORA SHREDDER, WHICH COST $90 AND WAS USED FOR TEN YEARS: br>1) I'm relieved to see that shredder prices have remained relatively stable over time. br>br>2) This shredder is extremely quiet. With this running, I can hear the TV and talk. The previous shredder screamed like a maniac. It was difficult to do anything else while it was running. br>br>3) Once you get into a shredding rhythm, this thing can run for up to 30 minutes without stopping. When more than one person is attempting to clean a pile of junk mail, it is easy to run a shredder for 10-minutes at a time. Almost continuously for 15 minutes. I believe it is worthwhile to pay the extra money for a professional motor that runs longer. br>br>4) I really like the 16-inch model. the number of pages available My old Aurora, I'm guessing, was around ten years old. page would become stuck in the middle of a sentence. This thing hasn't gotten stuck in the middle of anything yet, shred. shred. I've put two unopened envelopes through at a time, and I can hear the motor squeal a little, but it hasn't stopped working. 5) It hasn't jammed on me yet. It claims to be jam-free. It is proof, but it also states that it is jam-packed. Reverse the proof. On my old Aurora, reverse would sometimes refuse to clean jams, but I was always able to pull hard enough with the unit to clear them, but it did cause me some concern. I've fed enough paper through this machine to jam the old one, but one must exercise caution and patience in order to avoid jamming the machine. Congestion is a terrifying experience: This device hasn't jammed yet: It appears that jamming this device will be difficult: However, exercise caution and avoid overdoing it. It will shred a lot, but don't expect it to never jam; in fact, because it requires a higher capacity, it may be even more difficult to unjam than my old system. It was just a thought.
It chews through junk mail like butter; those bulky credit card things you get in the mail don't even need to be opened; simply insert them into the slot and it chews them into tiny pieces. CDs, plastic cards, and staples are all examples of items that can be used to store information. gone.
I was able to run it for an hour without any issues. It ate everything I put in front of it.
I used it to shred a lot of papers, bills, and documents, and it performed admirably. For a while, the auto-stop feature worked well, but the main gear that drives the rollers sheared the tines. It has ceased to function. I would have given this product five stars if it didn't have such a short lifespan, and it wasn't the most expensive on the market, so I expected it to last longer. I've looked online for a replacement gear but haven't been able to locate one for this particular unit. We regret to inform you that we are unable to recommend this product.
It doesn't work as advertised, and it can't handle more than 16 pages. When the bin is half-full, the red light of a filled bin turns on. This occurs after about 5 minutes of shredding, so there's no way to see if it heats up by running it for 30 minutes. I wasted a lot of time resetting the half bin full red and constantly having to work with 8 pages instead of 16, and LABOR IN OFFICE is expensive, so I'm returning this shredder.
As other reviewers have stated, it works for a long time. If the bin could hold more, that would be fantastic. I think I've only pushed it to cut half of the sheets it says it can - There's no reason to put it to death.
I despise all of the boxes that pile up faster than my trash collection service can dispose of them. I bought this shredder, and now I shred and compost all of the cardboard I get from Amazon and other places. Except for extremely thick cardboard held together with giant industrial staples, this will shred almost all cardboard you get at home.
This shredder has a lot of appeal to us. We slept better knowing we were taking steps to protect our identity by shredding paperwork and bills, even though it seemed costly at the time. It's fantastic! I would purchase this item again. We haven't had any issues so far.
