The cubbies have enough room for backpacks and jackets, right?

In addition to the tightness, a backpack would definitely be a little tight if there is anything left in it.

Can it support a certain amount of weight?

This is used in my classroom as cubbies (2 kids share a cubby), so 24 students fit within it without any issue. I use it to hold jackets, books, folders, etc.

Could this be mounted for stability in a school classroom or is it stable enough to be placed on the ground?

It is in my classroom, but I didn't mount it since my students are increasingly getting older and don't like climbing on things. I like that it is on wheels and can be easily moved around the room when I want to rearrange the arrangement.
