The Velcro strips on the drum shell and the small aluminum brackets that hold the muffling ring to the head are attached with Velcro strips. In order to change the amount of muffling, the Velcro strips that attach to the drum shell can be made longer so that they can be moved up further away from the head or closer to it, respectively.

Totally blown away with the tone this adds to my bass drum. I got the 18" version because I didn't want as much muffline as the 22". It works really well so far, and gives me a nice deep.
I was very happy with the service.
