It's most likely split cow leather that has been veg tanned. It has a cowy odor to it. I took a bite and it tasted like dye.
It will fit a standard LP platter with a diameter of about 11 inches. 12". The quality is excellent.
No, the mat on the Vertical turntable is not held in place by anything. Sorry.
As for the answer, it is a No. I haven't tried that technique and appear to be too skeptical to try it.

I immediately noticed a large bump in the mat when I took it out of the package. When I put my records on the turntable with the felt mat, the tonearm would jump up and down like it was on a trampoline, causing skipping. Because one end of the leather mat was thicker than the other, it was warped! There is clearly no quality control, which I would not expect from a professional service. I am a huge fan of this company and everything about it. I believe I received a defective product, but it did help with sound when it wasn't skipping. The item will be returned to you.
I had a lot of fun with the Ject 1Xpression Carbon Classic, but I was having a lot of trouble with static buildup on records. br>It's something I refer to as Pro- When Ject USA was asked if their cork matte would work, they suggested the Leather It. Static? Gone! Everything has vanished. No more issues after cleaning the LP and inserting a MFSL Static sleeve! I'm very pleased with my turntable addition!.
I have a Fluance Turntable with an Acrylic platter, and I purchased this to protect the platter. Static was an issue as well, but it is now significantly reduced. br>br>Sound br>br>Sound br>br>Sound br> I'm also pleased because there are fewer pops and crackles as a result of the decreased static. I don't detect any muddiness while listening, and there is good overall separation. br>br>I've tried Felt and Cork as well, and Leather, in my opinion, is the way to go. br>There are no cut or flatness issues, and the material is thin but effective.
I invested in a Pro- Ject Classic EVO and this leatherIt mat, which came with the Classic SB Surer Pack table, were both purchased at the same time. The Leather mat on the Alloy platter is ideal because it does not produce static! Clamp It is a tool that is used in conjunction with this tool. It is impossible to make a mistake.
Static Electricity is a big plus. This is what I got for my Technics SL- 1210GR because the stock mat smells like a tire, and I had to add another thin mat underneath because this one is a little thinner, but it works fine. I had forgotten how effective they were at reducing static electricity. In comparison to the stock mat, it also appears to be much more elegant.
It's a huge improvement over the turntable's original felt mat. The platter is no longer attracting dust and cat hair.
To reduce turn table noise, this is a must-have item.
The sound of my turntable spinning at 33 1/3 RPM has been improved - connected to my cartridge, passing through my amplifier and out the speakers.
