Premium Leather Deer Hide Turntable Mat

This record mat was primarily purchased due to static. It's on my VPI Prime, which has a metal platter, that I use it on. This platter is a static magnet, and when I touched the tone arm during the winter months, I literally arced static. Static is eliminated after using this deer skin mat. I'm not going to claim that my records have suddenly become more open and detailed, etc. However, I will say that the mat has done a fantastic job of controlling static, so I guess you'll end up with less noise in the record, which will make your records sound better in the end. The mat is the right size, and my record's edge lines up perfectly with it, which is important in my case because I use the VPI record screw down clamp to help bond the record to the platter. I've noticed a reduction in resonance as well. This product has exceeded my expectations, and I will most likely purchase another for my other turntable. It's important to remember that the mat's thickness affects the tone arm's SRA (VTA). You're effectively more tail down, which lowers the high end slightly and throws off the stylus's rake angle. In this case, it's about lowering the highs. Keep in mind that you're essentially doubling the tracking force. Even a small change in the thickness of this mat can boost your virtual tracking force (VTF) by up to half a gram. A turntable is a precision instrument, and adding thickness to the platter necessitates adjustments and compensation. So here's some advice: before blaming the problem on the mat, re-evaluate the situation. Check and re-check your TT setup. evaluate. It is well worth the money. I am a CHEAP person who enjoys listening to music. After abandoning vinyl in favor of CDs in my teens in the 1980s, I returned to it about 5 years ago. I purchased 637 records, the majority of which were purchased for a few dollars at the flea market, and about 50 of which I purchased new, the majority of which were 180g and some of which were colored vinyl. I spent $10 on five turntables. Technics, DENON, and Audio Technica carts are all $15, as are Pickering, Ortofon, and AT carts. I bought new styli for the OMP cart and the Sherwood full auto direct-drive w/pitch control I got for $15 at the Flea market, which is the best I've found so far. As a result, I'm a BUYER. My Pioneer SX-1000 I received 680 as a gift. It was broken, according to my friend, and crackled constantly. I cleaned it, it sounds great, and I like it so much that I swapped out the lamps for blue LEDs. I'm CHEAP once more, but I know what I'm doing this time. This mat was purchased to replace a dried-up one. On the Sherwood, we've got a rubber one. I decided to use an Amazon gift card I received for X-mas to treat myself. Mas. I'm a cheapskate, but this mat is well worth the money. Jake has accurately described everything. After listening to many records with this mat for the past two months, I felt compelled to write a review. I intend to purchase another for the DENON TT I intend to install in my garage this summer. " Those who claim they still have "static" and believe they need a "cork" bed underneath this product should consider the following: The static "electricity" you are experiencing is caused by your salt filled 150lb (/-) mattress. 60lbs ha- body (hah) Simply put, you're transferring electrons from your body reservoir to a record with capacitor-like properties. Simply touching your phonostage turntable ground screw to discharge your body's electrical charge to ground is a foolproof solution.
