There is no doubt that it is a much better version. There is no problem getting intonation with it as opposed to a violin type bass, and it sounds better than the 400 dollar Hoffmann.
Yes, I do have them in my possession, and yes, they strings come out of the machine head side of the nut quite thin at the ends and taper away from their regular thickness about 3/4".
For slap, this bass would not be a good choice.

+In order to hold the viola, it is quite awkward to wrap your arm around. Due to its semi hollow body, this instrument has a very heavy neck. The EB-300 has a neck that matches Epiphone's EB-303 despite its shorter neck length This model will need medium scale strings since the strings wrap across the body of the guitar- It's stunning! You will need a sturdy stand to mount it on. It has a floating bridge that is protected by foam, you have to release the bridge to remove it, then tune the guitar. It is hard to believe that this bass is only $299! The bass guitar looks stunning, and it makes me want to buy it. However, I am satisifed with the sound of a hofner even though I have not played one. However, it is highly recommended that you purchase some new strings for it. There is nothing better than the flat wound ones!.
Nice. It was only slightly out of tune when it came out of the box. It tuned up perfectly, plugged in without any problems, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. The tones are sweet and the depth is real. The 1969 Hofner stands alone, but I found the Epiphone to be much more sturdy and toned better than the new Hofner equivalent. I tried the new Hofner of this copy of the original German Bass, and it is much better than the Epiphone. As hollow as the "real thing" might be, they are both heavier. Hofner copy is back to Becker, and Epiphone copy will remain in my possession. The aesthetic quality of this piece makes it a welcome addition to any music room. Take the mini Vox, plug in some nice headphones, and go crazy. If you have any money left, you can buy a Beatle Wig, a Nehru jacket, and take some Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds for a musical adventure. This is the story of a time traveller.
