Questions & Answers

What is the difference between a tenor and a scholar?

You're making a distinction between two ideas. A tenor trombone is simply a trombone with a different voicing. Tenor trombones are the most common trombones on the market. They produce instruments of varying quality and price, ranging from student to intermediate to professional. Student models are the most cost-effective, and they're usually what you'd want for a first-year student. Intermediate models are of higher quality than student models, and they may contain an F Attachment. Professional-grade instruments are the most expensive and are made with the highest precision and quality. Professional-grade instruments usually include an F attachment. So, if you're looking for a trombone for a younger student, you'd go with a student model tenor trombone. A player in middle school or with about 4-years of experience should use an intermediate tenor trombone. 6 years of professional experience An individual who is in high school, college, or has 8 or more years of experience and plans to perform on a regular basis should consider purchasing a professional tenor trombone. br>Opinions differ on the quality of instruments that students should have at various stages of their playing careers. But I think what I've said so far is a good place to start.

IS IT EQUAL TO ONE OF THE TOP BRAND NAME BRAND NAME NAME NAME NAME NAME ?

This trombone, as well as a professional Conn 88HTO trombone, are both in my collection. It is in no way comparable to the best-known brands. This trombone reminds me of the dreadful $100 student rental horn I used my freshman year! This horn, trust me, will be a DOWNGRADE, not an upgrade.

I'd like to get my husband a trombone for Christmas because he used to play in high school. Is there any specific sizing I should know about before ordering?

Contrary to popular belief, a large bore horn is not suitable for everyone. Large bore trombones are "symphonic" horns that, while typically tenor rather than bass, are difficult to "fill up" or sustain and aren't usually considered "lead" horns. " If in doubt, ask," I advise. Find out what kind of horn he used to play, research that horn, and search for bore sizing that is similar. I used a King 3B (with F attachment) that I purchased brand new in high school. The 3B was a medium-to-heavy-duty pickup truck. Instrument with a small bore. I've owned and played a Conn 88H, a true large bore symphonic instrument, and despite being a pkayer for many years and a music major in college, I never grew to love or even like the 88H because it felt like I was trying to fill a vast void full of air. I'm sorry, but I'm not a fan of the horn. When you're just playing for fun and aren't planning on joining the symphony, what's my rule of thumb? Bore size varies between small and medium. Skip the stuff with a large bore and a 9-inch bell. A good student model horn is also a good choice. Almost any horn, even a student model, is a better horn than almost any player. I'm serious.

Is there a mouthpiece included in this?

The mouthpiece is included with this instrument.

As the year progressed, the case began to fall apart and deteriorate - The warranty does not cover this item
3/5

I bought this instrument for my son in August 2016, and now, after a year of use, I'm back to write a review and look into the warranty. Just keep in mind that you get exactly what you pay for. br>br>The reason I bought it in the first place was because the school required a $75 payment. I paid the first year's instrument rental fee of $0. 00. My son enjoyed playing the trombone and wanted to continue, so the school advised us to buy one so that first-year students could continue to use the rentals. So I went to the local music stores and found out that it would cost around $600. I knew my son liked the instrument, but I wasn't sure how much he liked it, so I went looking for something less expensive and came across this instrument. Advantages: br>br> The price is excellent, and it came with a few useless extras that made my son feel special and confident in our purchase. The sound of the instrument is excellent. When it first arrived, the case was quite impressive. The shoulder straps and carry handles were particularly appealing to us. We thought this would be helpful because my son takes the bus in both directions. If your child does not travel with the instrument or if it is only used once or twice a week, the case may be sufficient. The instrument has been well-protected by the case, and it still looks and sounds great, and he will be able to use it next school year. br>br>Contrary to popular belief, there are a number of disadvantages to using this product. When he changes notes, the slide does not glide smoothly across the instrument. I've noticed that when he plays this instrument, it makes more noise than the one we rented from the school the previous year. Fortunately, the extra friction and noise didn't bother my son; it was only me, as the observer, who was bothered by it if I sat too close. br>Within the first few months of ownership, the case's black rubber feet began to fall off. Throughout the school year, the handles gradually became un-usable. stitched with some holds left behind The case has been falling apart, so my husband and I are dismantling it and replacing the feet during our summer vacation. repairing all of the handles, as well as any other areas that require attention. the seams have been re-sewn I can't find any place on their website where I could just buy a new case. In fact, I haven't been able to locate anyone who will sell me the case alone. br>br>The trombone is a one-piece instrument with a one-piece mouthpiece. (They want you to pay for shipping both ways, so expect to pay for a year's worth of warranty. ) (There is no warranty on this case. ) br>br>In conclusion, the size and price are excellent, and I would purchase another if I were in a pinch. However, you'll need a backup plan for getting your instrument from point A to point B because this instrument case isn't going to hold up.

Has made it through the first five months of middle school - It's a slam dunk
5/5

Okay, after 5 months of 6th grade, I'm finally writing a review after my son has used this trombone. Unlike my daughter's flute, which we rented (wisely), I decided that because a trombone has so few moving parts, we should buy a cheap one. We were absolutely correct in our decision. This is a fantastic beginner trombone that can be used in a variety of situations. He hasn't had any problems with his band teacher, and everything is going well. My son will never be Fred Wesley, but the trombone has nothing to do with it. lol. Also impressive is the case. And he hasn't been able to dent or batter it yet. If you have a child who is unsure about their instrument, I strongly advise you to enroll them. The price is less than a year's worth of rent, and the quality is more than adequate for a first-year student.

With a few flaws, it's a good trombone
4/5

The Mendini trombone is a stunning player for the money, with a stylish lacquer, a free-moving slide, and excellent playability. However, there are a few issues that could be resolved and are minor annoyances. br>The slide is stiff when first unboxed. I concluded that slide oil was required because there were no dents and the slides were parallel. Don't worry about the extras that come with it; It is completely ineffective. Try the Yamaha slide oil instead, which restored the slide's full potential. The transition is buttery smooth. All you have to do now is locate the appropriate slide oil. br>In addition, when the trombone is not in use, the valve tends to stay in place. This can be easily fixed by moving the rotor by hand instead of using the trigger (too much force may break the trigger). After that, it works fine; it's not the smoothest trigger, but it does the job. br>Another oddity I noticed about the trombone is that the metal isn't as thick as it was on my Olds Ambassador trombone. The Ambassador is a long-lasting trombone that has seen little wear over the years. The Mendini, as a Chinese-born person, It is possible that a hand-crafted instrument will not last as long as a machine-made instrument. Simple instrument care in this case would undoubtedly extend its useful life. Finally, the F extension isn't perfect; the F tubing appears to lack a tuning slide. Is this something that some people have a problem with? Probably. Is it, however, preferable to drawing the slide to the unholy positions of 6th and 7th? Without a doubt. All it takes is a little compensation in the form of a centimeter or so drawn back on the main slide and some tuning adjustments. Nothing difficult. br>Here are a few of the flaws I discovered. Is it possible that I'm being a tad too picky? Perhaps. After all, a $300 trombone isn't supposed to be flawless, but this one came close. br>br>UPDATE (June 14, 2017): It turns out that a trombone F trigger tuning slide does exist, but mine was jammed. I had it unstuck at a repair shop. Now I'm able to play C/F in tune. The reason it was stuck in the first place was due to poor manufacturing quality, which resulted in a corroded tuning slide, which caused the issue. br>Also, the lacquer does not appear to be long-lasting. After a few weeks of playing on the trombone, the areas with the most hand contact appear to have lost their luster, but the trombone remains in excellent condition overall. Last but not least, I oiled the rotor by pouring regular valve oil through the tuning slides. The rotor can now move freely and is not stiff.

This horn, in my opinion, is a fantastic value
5/5

All I want right now is to obtain. I'm an 80-year-old former trombone player who hasn't played since 1954, when my Frank Holton trombone went missing and I wanted to see if I could still play. This horn, in my opinion, is a fantastic value. All I want now is to get my lip back to where it was when I was a first-chair soloist in the pep band. This horn has brought me great joy.
