You won't get any return on your investment

Rip off of the nth degree. You won't be able to recoup your expenses. This can be accomplished much more easily with a cotton handkerchief.

A widened flute can be wiped out only if the fluid is too thin

Next time, don't be cheap with the material. It was very thin to wipe out the flute and very cheaply made. The best thing to do is to not do it.
