Questions & Answers

I have a really big viola! Can I use those strings on my viola if they are 5" long?

Having used a 17 inch before, I can confirm that they will fit. The violas are on one of my 5" violas

What are the implications of this length for violas 15"?

Violins 15 inches in diameter can be played with these strings. It may be necessary to trim a little from the peg end to complete the project. You need to cut about a half-inch away from the peg if there is too much string to wrap. If you are very sure, string the peg down

Is it possible to use them on a 17" The number 17 is what I understand. It was suggested that 5" was too long in a previous question, but what about 17?"?

There is a possibility that they can be fitted to 17-inch violas. Vibratory length and "after length" are related to each other. Because the tailpiece rests on the bridge, the after length determines the vibrating range. In order to be assured about the fit, it is not enough to know the body dimensions.

A deep dive
5/5

Those are my favorite! Despite the slightly higher price of these strings, I tried a few other strings and put them off due to their slightly more expensive price. However, having tried other strings I have been searching for a dark and warm tone, and Obligados have the nice dark warmth I am looking Prior to this I had played Dominants, and while they were easy to play, they lacked the extra depth I needed. The Kaplan Fortes had a very pleasant sound, but they were more difficult to play and did not respond as well as I expected for my stage of musical development. My favorite part of the OBligatos was Helicore, but it was too tinny for me.

A new viola was purchased and I felt like the tone wasn't what I would like
5/5

A new viola was purchased and I felt like the tone wasn't what I would like. My decision to order the Obligato's was made and I am extremely happy with how they sound. The tone of the music took on a much more melodious quality. They sound interesting on my violin and I may try them. It has only been a few days, but they seem to be stable and hold their tune very quickly, so they so far seem like a good choice. So far, I am very satisfied.

The one I turn to The viola strings are tuned
5/5

Strings from this manufacturer have been my mainstay on my violas for many years. The sound is mellow and beautiful. Although I've tried a few others, Obligatos has always remained the most effective.

The sound is warm and round
4/5

A very good string set. Since I have been violist for 8 years, they are one of my personal favorites. Tone very warm and inviting. It seems like they have a lot to project. In addition to their mellow side, they have an excellent sense of humor. In their brand new state, they ring particularly well. The A string is not as clear and quick responding as other strings like Evah Pirazzi Gold, so I think that is the only drawback I can see.

The sound that my viola made was instantaneously rich and pleasing to the ear
4/5

The sound that my viola made was instantaneously rich and pleasing to the ear. In contrast to the tried and true Dominants, these strings tend to turn false in a shorter amount of time. But if you're a professional player like me, you simply take advantage of the short period.

I am very satisfied with these for my viola
5/5

They sound great! I was surprised how good they are. They still sound fresh after several months after their release, and it's a big but mellow sound. On my instrument, the Evah Pirazzi and the Dominant are not as powerful as these. Hence, you won't know what your viola wants until you try it. Since violas are very particular about what they like and what they don't like, you need to experiment a little. It's a happy day for my viola, and it's a happy day for me.
