Selected User Reviews For WITTNER 918131 tailpiece for full size violin (4/4 size), incl. 4 string adjuster, Made in Germany

For beginners who require micro adjusters, this is a good option
5/5

I had to do a lot of research on violin accessories and their uses because I was new to violins. I replaced the old ebony tailpiece with this one as part of the changes I made to my violin. The previous one was lovely, but with the string tension adjusters in place, it was far too long. One of the first things I learned about my violin was that the distance between the tail and bridge had to be one-sixth of the string length. The length of the ebony tail with the adjusters installed made this impossible. br> By about a half-inch, this tail is shorter than the previous one. The adjusters have been incorporated so that the free point of the wire at the anchor is approximately an inch shorter than the other tail with extended adjusters. Short version of a long story an extra inch between the tail and the bridge to make your 1/6th of a wire length String length between bridge and tail on a 4/4 violin should be 5 on a 4/4 violin. 5cm or 2- 1/64 of an inch This isn't a set-in-stone measurement. It should be a little shorter or longer depending on the violin. However, the difference in distance would be negligible. It's only a matter of millimeters. br> As a result, the primary motivation for this purchase was the need for a shorter tail (on the violin). It was a fantastic outcome. br>The fact that the materials were lighter was an added bonus. br> I also improved the string set. For me, the helicore with wound E was ideal. The most significant change was the construction of a new bridge. I could explain why, but that would require a ten-page paper. I went with a Teller brand bridge that had a lot of positive reviews on Amazon. It took some time and effort, but it turned out to be a huge success.

It works well, and the fine tuner design is excellent
5/5

This tailpiece has now been installed on three fiddles, and I'm pleased with the results. Because it's made of plastic, it's quite light. The four excellent tuners are fantastic - They're built into the tailpiece, so they don't add to the overall length, and the design makes it nearly impossible to overtighten a fine tuner to the point where it scratches the instrument's top (as old-style metal add-on fine tuners can). ) They're also made to hold a ball. end strings with greater ease than the old method. br>br>Installation is simple if you're used to dismantling your instrument. Use the previous tailpiece to help set the length of the little tail (it has adjustment screws on both ends), and be careful not to bump the instrument while the strings and bridge are removed, as this may cause the sound post to fall over, necessitating a trip to the violin repair shop.

I find it to be effective
5/5

This is for the player who prefers fine tuners on all of their strings and isn't concerned about a (minor and possibly fictitious) loss of tonal color. This was my go-to "$2" purchase. 00 fiddle," a Hopf from the late 1800s that I rebuilt about 30 years ago. This fiddle settled in a decade ago and now sounds better than any new fiddle I've played in the last few years. As a result, it's a good place to put this tailpiece to the test. br>br>As I previously stated, any loss of tonal color is, as far as I can tell, in my imagination. This tailpiece has fine tuners on all of the strings, and because the tuners are integral, the tailpiece is balanced, ensuring that the string length is where it should be. It also appears to be more durable than the fine tuners that fit into the holes of a standard tailpiece. br>br>In 2018, I wrote that. This edit was made in 2022 to reflect the fact that in 2019, I discovered two much better violins, both made by an obscure luthier in Tennessee who recently passed away. Because I continue to play a wide range of music, including old time tunes that necessitate retuning to AEae or DDAD, it was inevitable that my two best fully adjustable tailpieces would migrate to them. The Wittner Ultra is a fantastic tailpiece for the money. Rather than simplifying the tone of these two unique violins, it enhanced it. This is something that can only be appreciated on a truly excellent instrument. My old German violins are good in comparison to the average ones you see at jam sessions and fiddling competitions, but they don't show how much the tone can be improved with one of these tailpieces. I'm hoping that the reader won't be discouraged by the lack of improvement if they use one of these on a standard fiddle because the convenience will outweigh the other factors. But, if they're going to load up a good violin with four fine tuners so they can easily play nonstandard tunings, I'd remind them that an Ultra has four fine tuners for significantly less weight and string afterlength.

Tailpiece is excellent
5/5

This is played on a German violin from 1936, and it sounds great. I like the look and feel of it, and I don't have to worry about metal tuners scratching the delicate finish on my old fiddle. The internal tuners also enable me to position the tailpiece 55mm from the bridge (this adjustment maintains proper string tension). I've had it on my violin for over five years and have had no issues with it.

Installing it was a breeze, and it appears to be very durable
5/5

When I first opened the package, it appeared to be cheap due to the plastic, but it has held up well! After inserting the nylon string into the tailpiece, simply screw on the brass sleeves on both sides. The fine tuners are very effective, and the places where the strings go can even hold the thick nylon violin strings I purchased for an old violin I restored. Despite the prominent string holding slots, it doesn't look out of place on an old violin.

This is a fantastic alternative to using an electric violin
5/5

On an electric violin, I bought this to replace a discolored tailpiece. It has all four fine tuners, which I really like. It's much easier to adjust tuning between sets as a result of this. The tailpiece adjuster (the "string") was simple to use, and I was able to get it just right before putting it on the violin by using the old tailpiece as a guide. There was no buzzing or unwelcome vibration, and the price and delivery time were both excellent.

There has been a noticeable improvement in the quality of the inexpensive violin; There is no tailcord
3/5

I took the place of an overworked employee. An old French student-level fiddle with a long tailpiece. The Wittner is a good size for getting the right amount of aftershave. length. There was a small but noticeable improvement in tone as a result of this. I docked two stars because the tail cord was missing from the box.
