Questions & Answers

Is this a stainless steel or an aluminum steel? Is it precise enough to be used as a fret slotting template as well?

Aluminum isn't a fret-slotting template.

Is this a stainless steel or an aluminum steel? Is it precise enough to be used as a fret slotting template as well?

Aluminum. No, the slots are wide enough to accommodate the frets easily. It's for checking the fretboard's level, not for determining where fret slots should be cut.

Is it possible to use it with an Ibanez bass guitar?

It certainly ought to. It has 34" scale notches on one side and 35" scale notches on the other, covering all standard basses (4-string). The length of the string is 34" and the width is 5". 35" string). It'll work unless your Ibanez is a 30" short-scale bass (which is unusual) or a 36" long-scale bass (which is also unusual). If you're still unsure, measure the distance between the nut and the bridge. You'll be fine if you're 34 or 35 inches tall.

Due to the soft metal, this was a simple task
3/5

This straight edge is suitable for two scale basses. One side is for a 35-inch long scale bass with a nut to bridge length of 35 inches. The other side is scaled to fit bass guitars with a nut to bridge length of 34 inches. However, because the 34-inch scale side lacks a notch for the last fret, I had to shave about 3/16 of an inch off the end to make room for it. I used a hacksaw to make two cuts at the end of the straight edge, which was easy because the metal was soft, but REALLY! If you look closely at the photo, you'll notice that the distance between the last notch and the straight edge's end is longer than the distance between the last two notches. The side with the 35-inch scale is fine. This straight edge will do the job, but I deducted two stars from my rating because I had to cut a notch out of the 34 scale side to clear the last fret. br>br>Useful Tip: When adjusting the neck, most straight edges won't stand up on their own, so I use masking tape at the 5th and 20th frets to keep mine in place. This frees up my hands to hold down the guitar and adjust the truss rod while simultaneously watching the gap between the straight edge and the fretboard increase or decrease, and it also eliminates the need to hold up the straight edge while measuring the gap with a feeler gauge.
