Questions & Answers
It is typically just the snare side bottom on a snare drum that differs from the rest of the bottom heads. In most cases, a thin head is used. In general, players will use a single ply, medium weight head for the bottom of their toms, such as a Remo Ambassador, coated or clear. Whenever I use clear, I use it. It is possible to use these Emperors as a resonant side or as a batter side, but it is usually used as a top side. So, hope there's some help here.
They were also coated, I can vouch for that. There are a lot of things that Amazon gets wrong on their pictures, and if you ask me, they don't know anything about drum gear, so you should take the description into account, not just I hope you found that helpful.

This set or any other During my drumming career, I played a Pearl set and then a Gretsch set for 20 years. Trying to raise a family made it difficult for me to keep them. Since a couple of years ago, I have started to play again. Due to the fact that I didn't expect to play professionally this time around, I bought a low-end I had learned all kinds of tuning tricks over the years, but none made them sound The sound of my $300 drums began to rival that of my old Pearl professionals as soon as I bought these heads. It was the first time I heard a rich, mellow sound bursting from these drums because all the ringing and echo became gone.
For my non batter side heads in the rock and roll kit I bought these. It was my intention to have my toms sound punchier but muted. I could also use them in the batter side and use normal single ply resonant ears on the non batter side if I wanted a different sound.
Depending on its coating, this product is between ambassador and pinstripe. It seems like these will not reduce the overtones as much as pinstripes do, but round them slightly more than ambassadors.
If that is the case, then I don't want to be right. I love the sound those heads produce and these are the perfect heads for me. The box wasn't included in this order on Amazon, so I ordered it for a lower price. A new set of heads has been installed. There was a lot of savings for me. It is highly recommended that these heads are purchased. I really like how they sound. It would be great to buy these again in the future.
This set I play at church has quite a bit of a muting effect because of these heads. Do not get me wrong, these heads are pretty decent, but I thought the pitch was a little lower than what I believed.
I have them on my kit at present, though I may switch back to pinstripes in the future. Usually these are standard heads, but they are capable of quite a bit of power, especially on better kits.
The Remo Ambassador coated head is made of stainless steel. All the other brands I have tried haven't lived up to these and always leave me A simple, single-step process Tuning is easy and the result is Take a look- The following is up to date as of As I examine the latest set of coated Ambassadors, I am noticing that the coating is degrading faster than usual. My tom heads aren't used nearly as often as my snares since they're attached to toms. Despite the fact that the center of the snare's older coated head (maybe 4 years old, used sporadically but with a lot of use) is turning smooth, the older coated head on my snare is still coated. Recent models have reduced the coating to the mylar, leaving no further coating. The sticks I use are light weight and I don't use nylon tips on my sticks. This is something to keep in mind. Despite the good sounds of the drums, I am not going to play with brushes on this set, so I have reduced my rating to 4 stars.
Everything went as expected and as advertised.
