Questions & Answers

Are metals well served by this?

In short, yes. While I recognize the answer is nearly five years old, I still wanted to share it with you. Yes, but you must be careful. I would say that once you tighten up this skank, you'll have a solid low end response with a solid attack, which will be a great blessing What's even more crazy is that I do not use tape or gels on mine. But I really like the

What if I wanted to use this for a bass drum?

It is true that the better Onyx heads will work for your bass drum, but as you know, if you are already using the Onyx heads you know how the resonates change so it will also dampen the bass sound.

On a snare drum, would it sound good?

I agree. It has the best audio and graphics In the event the bearing edge of the snare drum does not have any defects, durability can be expected Head of snare)

What is the shelf life of the "frost" coating? Do you think it resembles the white coating we have on our cars? Describe how it is different if it is not?

There has always been a good reputation for coated heads for brush work, I agree with one of the other answers, both should respond the same way, but I can assure you that the frosted head is going to have a bit more projection. I hope this helps.

Selected User Reviews For Evans Onyx Drum Head, 6 Inch

If you know what you are trying to find, this is a good head
5/5

Despite some reviews, I disagree with those who said the dampening went The reason you would purchase a snare head like this is because of precisely this reason. Head-to-head is a very specific type of head-to-head There may be others similar to this one with different features, but if you already know what you want, this could be perfect. This head is what I use for my stays I have never been away from home This gets done A giggly gig There are no words to describe how happy I am with the sound of the kit. The musicality here is tight and poppy with plenty of snap, but with still enough overtones to appreciate what is being offered such as WHEN IT IS SET RIGHT. I really appreciate the small size of this head since I am not in need of a lot of volume or natural reverb/overtones for my small rehearsal room. I would like to think that this head could be used live if mic'd and at the studio it would be superb. The problem is that this head has nothing to do with it Overtones that are flat and dry, but still punchy without taking away from the snare's natural resonance. The head I'm wearing is my favorite. I bought it because I loved it so much. Your goals will help you as well, if you know them.

These headphones are amazing! Disappointed with Amazon, in love with them! In my case, the item I bought was "quality used" and the item I received was "damaged by Amazon warehouse"
5/5

Evans' head was brand new, so there was no fault on his part. An Amazon product that is falsely advertised. The drum head appears to have been run over or stepped on by either a forklift or some other means of transport. I could put the head on the drum but it still wrinkles and tuning is not possible. I was able to tighten it but it will not get the wrinkles out totally. It will be necessary to return there. The heads I'm showing you I absolutely love. You can pair them with g2s/reso and they will sound like thunder.

I love it! My rack toms sound better than they have ever before since I got the 12" and 13" heads
5/5

The matte black finish looks awesome, the tone is incredible, and it's very easy to tune. The build of this Head is fantastic as well. I give this head I can't think of anything to complain about. (As a side So I wouldn't need any additional dampening, I bought a black hydraulic 16" for my floor tom Since I bought my kit 12 years ago, the floor tom has the best body and tone it has ever had. I will be an Evans for the rest of my.

It's just what I was looking for
5/5

A fan of Evans since I was a kid. The acrylic drum I made myself recently is a 5-inch custom acrylic snare. The dimensions are 5x14, and the owner wanted an all black look with muffling and control. A great deal of good came out of this. Snare does not become muted by this. Removes just the sustain of the overtones. The crack is still there after tuning They have always worked for me and I've used them for quite a while now. That was the first time I used it as a snare batter, and I'd highly recommend it.

I'm gonna say it again Evan's Onyx is the best! I am Evans
5/5

Evans Onyx jumped up a notch yet again with the Yamaha gigmaker. Not only does it look and sound better, but it is easier to use and maintain. It is certain that I will buy it again once the drum head needs to be replaced.

It's great having Evans Onyx heads on your head! This 14" head goes with the "Evans Onyx 2-" head that I purchased The "Ply Tompack Coated, Standard (12", 13", 16") that I bought to replace my Remo Powerstroke pack came with a number of different colors and designs in it
5/5

This was the third head I used. In my review of those heads, I mentioned that I would like to buy two or more The attack must have less sustain because I needed it to record. You can definitely tell the difference between the heads when it comes to resonating and responding. Moreover, the coated texture creates a nice matte finish that looks cool on this head. This is based on a recommendation from a friend (Evans over Remo) and I can attest that the person knows what they are Evans heads will likely be my new choice from this point forward. Now if I could only get them to endorse me so I wouldn't have to buy them myself.

Skins that are the best! To benefit the sound, after receiving these products, I disposed of the gel pads and studio rings I had previously used
5/5

I highly recommend these. They sound great and are extremely durable. It is only ever going to be these heads These sound great on old school metal and rock I play, as well as on old school electronic music.

I love the sound of the drums
5/5

This is what I have on my 1971 Acrolite (Ludwig). I think that's a good idea. We have to wait and see how long this.
