the same: On August 22, 2016, I confirmed with OXO over the phone that their pepper and salt grinders (OXO s 1140*) are identical, with the exception that one comes pre-seasoned. The design, which includes the grinding mechanism (non-electric), is filled with black pepper and the other with salt. Both grinders have the same non-corrosive ceramic. The grinders work well and are attractively designed, in my opinion.
YES. It's critical to use coarse ground salt designed for salt mills, as previously mentioned. If you have a finer (table salt) grind on hand, you can always use it in your "semi-semi-semi-semi-semi-semi-semi-s salt shaker that has been "retired"
I have average-sized man hands, and they fit perfectly. I believe they would also work well with larger hands. I cook frequently and frequently use them, so they are never too small for me.
I'm not sure which issue you're referring to; When my wife moved the grinder, she unintentionally spilled salt - We hadn't noticed that the refill cap can loosen over time, but it's a minor inconvenience in our opinion because the benefits outweigh the minor inconvenience of tightening the cap every now and then.

Both of my grinders are set to the finest setting. It's not a big deal. The salt gushes out in a steady stream. The pepper grind is far from fine, consisting mostly of large chunks and medium chunks with a sprinkling of fine grind thrown in for good measure. It makes no difference what setting dial you use. It goes from a loose grind to an extremely loose grind, with each setting producing a different mix of chunks rather than a consistent grind. The issue appears to be that the finest setting does not bring the grinder wheel close enough to the disk for a good fine grind. There is a large gap at the best setting, as you can see in the photo. This is the grinder set for you if you prefer a mixture of large chunks and a heavy salt pour.
They're still going strong after nearly five years of use. The only reason I haven't thrown them out and replaced them yet is because of this. The pepper grinder adjusts the coarseness of the grind overall, but there is no uniformity. Regardless of the coarseness of the original, it appears that the salt grinder has only one setting, extra fine. The only reason I gave it a higher rating than one is because of its stubborn resistance to breaking.
Because of the poor design/failure, pepper grinders are quickly discarded. A small screwdriver is found on almost every grinder. knob at the top (I despise that obnoxious device! ), a small opening, and a grinding rod smack dab in the middle, making refilling a pain. Then they stop grinding or very little comes out, and the grind adjustment loosens over time. Not to mention the shambles it creates when it sits on the counter. My last batch had to be cooked in ramekins to contain the mess. br>br>Well, when I bought these, all of my complaints vanished! To begin with, it replenishes from the bottom up. On the top, there aren't any tiny screw knobs! To open/lock the container, simply turn the large twist cap. You can easily refill your rock salt and peppercorns thanks to a large, unobstructed opening. There's a lot of room in there. It's also pre-loaded with information. containing salt rock If you don't have any, replace them with peppercorns. br>br>You select the grind size you want by clicking a small tab. It doesn't move around! The grind is perfect, and it grinds my Pink Himilayan Salt to a fine powder or a coarse texture. (Without clogging, my previous grinder couldn't even grind Himilayan. ) Peppercorns, ground in a variety of sizes ranging from fine flakes to large flakes. br>br>I liked that I didn't have to grind as much as I used to. With a large rubber grip on the bottom, it twists quickly and effectively. There will be no more slipping or turning back and forth for the rest of your life! And the unit's top is where the grind comes from. Your counters will no longer be a shambles - genius! br>br>This is the first grinder I've ever loved in my 20 years of grinding! Because the price was lower than that of local retailers, you can put an end to your search and just buy it!.
These salts are extremely beneficial. Pepper grinders have a good grinding mechanism and a solid feel to them. The following are examples of thoughtful design additions: top v. bottom dispensing (so that salt shards are dispensed) I couldn't give this product 5 stars because while the grind selector has 5 settings, there's really only fine, medium, and coarse grind. br>I couldn't give this product 5 stars because while the grind selector has 5 settings, there's really only fine, medium, and coarse grind when you set the unit down. br>I couldn't give this product 5 stars because while the grind selector has 5 settings, there's really only fine, medium, and coarse grind when you set the unit down Furthermore, the price is a little too high. Despite those two factors, I continue to recommend this product.
These are by far the most well-designed grinders we've ever had! Over the years, we've gone through a lot of salt and pepper grinders. Even the most expensive ones don't last long, leave a mess on the table when you set them down after use, and are difficult to adjust the grind from coarse to fine. After our last pepper grinder broke in half, scattering peppercorns all over the table and rug, we tossed it, along with the clogging salt grinder that came with it. We assumed that whatever OXO had to offer would be a significant upgrade, and we were right. The table will no longer be a shambles! Filling is simple, and adjusting the grind is simple as well. They were even delivered ready to use. full of salt and pepper We wish we'd discovered them years ago.
Now that I've had the set for six weeks, I'd like to share my thoughts. It's a good size, easy to fill, and the grinders appear to be in good condition. However, the disadvantages outnumber the benefits. The coarseness of the salt and pepper is supposed to be adjustable with these grinders. However, whether the grinders are set to the finest or coarsest setting, the size of the grains that emerge is nearly identical. I'm not sure why OXO was bothered in the first place - Maybe it's a marketing ploy. Also, it can be difficult to get the pepper grinder to start grinding at times - To get the peppercorns into the grinding mechanism, you must shake the grinder and tap it against the counter. Finally, the salt's grinding mechanism appears to be frequently clogged. I'm not sure if it attracts and holds moisture or what, but I find myself wiping the salt out of the grinding mechanism on a regular basis. I only use ground Himalayan salt in mine, and I would not buy these again.
This OXO grinder set has been in my possession for quite some time, and it performs admirably. You won't have to fill the grinders very often because they're large enough. However, the set has a few flaws for me: br>a) For each, I use the tiniest settings. Pepper is fine, but the coarseness of the salt is still too much for me. br>b) The amount of ground pepper that comes out is very small, requiring a lot of cranking, whereas ground salt comes out too quickly. br>c) They are plastic, not glass, in the middle. My hot griddle had already burned one of them on the side. As a result, pay attention to where you put them.
