The mat comes in two sizes: a medium (large) size that measures 18 inches by 16 inches (45 inches) and a small (medium) size that measures 12 inches by 12 inches (45 inches). 7cm x 40. Because of the small differences in length, it appears to be square (6 cm). The folds were permanent because it was folded and wrapped in plastic wrap. It was purchased to complement a kitchen island counter, so this disappoints me. From the moment you look at it, you can see the creases. YES, I've washed it twice and dried it.
