Yes, the paper is taken away. Its sole purpose is to protect the plastic from being scratched until you use it.

They're exactly the same size as my palm, which makes them ideal for name cards. They are individually wrapped to avoid scratching. I can't wait to try it out with acrylic paint and my Cricut!.
