The knife I received was not dual-ended or bladed, and the handle was not made of wood. I could have bought a regular grapefruit knife for three dollars at the grocery store. It's debatable whether or not it's worth returning. There is a need for better item descriptions. Apparently, the double-decker bus This company's bladed knife is no longer available. I'm going to look around. The descriptions are extremely deceptive.
Unfortunately, the Amazon product description failed to mention that the "twin membrane blades" came to a point of closure, despite being separated as they should be! This can be seen in the image above. The twin blades can't possibly be placed on either side of the grapefruit segment membrane. The stainless steel blades can be "prised" apart, but they will return to their original position. I modified mine by inserting a 2 mm spacer between the twin blades, allowing me to easily position the blades on each side of a single membrane. It's clumsy, but it works.
I learned how to use those low-cost items as a child. o, single-parent blade, curved serrated grapefruit tools, but this one goes a step further because it's a dual blade that allows you to cut on BOTH sides of the membrane at the same time. When done correctly, you can easily and quickly 'dissect' a grapefruit (or orange) and have easy-to-eat grapefruit (or orange). pop- sections that have been removed (Plus, you'll still be able to squeeze out a lot of juice. ) ) Just keep in mind that the springy action will trap cellulose, so you'll need to clean between the blades every time you're done.
This knife appears to be a fantastic idea, and once modified, it performs admirably. We had to create a thin spacer to allow the membrane to pass through the double blades. We didn't dare to try bending the blades because it appeared to be a recipe for disaster! Overall, we're happy with how it functions and how well it's constructed.
The wood isn't up to par with my expectations. There isn't any kind of water-resistant stain on it, as far as I can tell. For me, the double blade knife does not cut well and bends outward after each use. However, I hope it works out for the rest of you.
Grapefruit is easily cut with this. Because it has two blades, I believe the other blade is used to cut citrus into very thin slices. I don't do this kind of cutting, but I gave that blade a try and it's also very good.
For the most part, it works fine; it is extremely sturdy and does not feel flimsy in the least. 4 of 5 because it is a little difficult to clean in between the blades and because it doesn't separate membrane 100% of the time, more like 85% of the time.
