I use it to check the temperature of the AC ducts in cars, and it works great.
I don't believe that is the case. When it comes to air temperatures, it's a cinch.
China is a strong contender. My son received this as a present. law.

I purchased two of these testers and had a negative first impression. The first tester I opened powered up immediately, but the second did not. So the first thing I had to do was go find a battery. Because the AB13 battery is not a typical battery type, the journey was enjoyable. This is one of the few times I'm grateful for my smartphone, because it allowed me to figure out that the AB13 and LR44 are the same thing. The battery had to be changed next, which was a lot of fun. I discovered a very cheap looking piece of plastic that you split in half to access the battery once I wrestled the boot off, which cracked as I was removing it. It reminded me of a gumball machine prize. The guts were completely unimpressive; there were two tiny wires soldered to the board that ran into an insulated sheath that ran down the tube but was not attached. The battery is kept in a cage, making it difficult to replace it. Regardless, I was able to replace the battery, reassemble all of the pieces, and reinstall the boot. To test the accuracy of both thermometers, I placed them in a pot of boiling water. One person put down the number 211. One is number one, while the other is number twenty-one. 2 Despite their low cost of construction, they appear to function. Rather than dealing with the hassle of returning them, I'm going to try to get twenty dollars' worth of use out of them.
I bought it about ten months ago but didn't have to use it until today, when our furnace appeared to be broken. I removed the thermometer from its packaging, pressed the power button, and received an "Err" reading. Then I noticed that the promised manual was missing from the box. I noticed that the package was supposed to include "a hard carrying case sleeve that also serves as a pocket clip" when I read the Amazon description again. Nope. I wasn't able to attend because I was not present. br>br>The company also claims to offer a one-year limited warranty, but does not specify how it will be handled, including whether they will pay for postage to return the unit to them. Postage to send it to them could cost anywhere from a third to half of the unit's price, making it a completely useless deal. br>br>I notified them of the situation and will await their response, if one is forthcoming. br>br>If the problem is resolved satisfactorily, I will update my review. br>br>At this time, I would not recommend this product or brand to anyone. br>br>Jerry.
but. It appeared to be brand new both in the package and when I took it out. It wouldn't turn on, it couldn't be used, and the deadline for returning it has passed. I should have double-checked it right after I got it. My loss, I suppose, is the result of my assuming.
I have two of these and have been using one for a few years to take quick air and pipe temperatures, as well as running water temperatures. I've never had to replace a battery because it lasts so long for me. The probe's base magnet allows it to cling to ceiling air vents; just make sure it doesn't fall from above and poke you in the eye: )br>br>Both of my thermometers show a value of /-. This is a quick pocket style that is within 1 degree of each other, which is fine for my needs. If you need something extremely accurate, look for something designed to provide extremely accurate temperatures. I wouldn't recommend trying to carry the head in a front pocket because of its size. For that purpose, it's a little too big. This thermometer's easy-to-read display appeals to me more than thermometers with side displays, which are more pocket-friendly. br>br>A thick black rubber shield covers the head; peel it back to reveal the battery compartment. The pocket clip was molded out of plastic as part of the sheath I received, rather than the chrome clip pictured, which didn't bother me in the least. br>br>The thermometer is propped up in some way by the hole or "loop" in the end of the sheath (lowest part of the picture). Use the probe to prop up the loop by sliding it through it. If I'm taking air temperature, I find it easier to set the thermometer on its display and simply point it up. I'm not sure how useful this loop design is; it still baffles me. br>br>I really like this thermometer, and both of them have done a great job for what I use them for. If I ever broke one, I'd just go out and buy another. I've had other types that weren't as long-lasting, so I went with this one and haven't been disappointed. br>br>Durability and readability of the display vs. pocket types that are smaller, bulkier, and less durable.
It's precise, quick, and has a handy magnet feature. I was pleasantly surprised by the accuracy; I ran the standard ice water and boiling water tests to see how it would perform, and it was accurate to within one degree in both cases, which is remarkable for something so inexpensive. I bought it to check the temperature of the plenums in HVAC ductwork, but I'm sure I'll find other uses for it. I'm going to order another one so I can keep one in the truck and one at home.
What a waste of quality assurance measures. I recommend that you look for this item elsewhere.
I purchased two Uei 550B. One of them displayed the word "Err" and had no temperature readings. The other one is perfectly acceptable. It appeared that I had no choice but to reunite them. However, I only received a 80% refund. I'm not happy.
The thermometer is kept in the ductwork by the magnetic head, which prevents it from falling out and damaging the sensor. I've purchased a few over the years and plan to continue doing so. I'm hoping they don't make any changes!.
