Questions & Answers

I have three 9930s (predecessor units) in my collection. One has failed (as indicated by the letters "LLL"). Is it possible to use a 9940 in place of the 9930?

I'm guessing LLL stands for lower than minimum temperature; this is most likely due to a faulty cable (you could also try new batteries). On a Taylor probe, I also had a similar failure. Because this unit's probe cable is soldered to the circuit board, switching cables would necessitate disassembling the unit and soldering in a new probe cable. It's impossible to say if the probes and cables are compatible without knowing the specifications of both. I would recommend purchasing a more expensive unit with K-technology. thermocouple that can be swapped out

Why aren't you able to send this to a military apo? It's the same thing as sending something to New York City. ?

Thank you for reaching out to us with your query. Due to UPS restrictions, some items cannot be shipped to PO Boxes. That is not the case with APO/FPO. We've added APO, but because Amazon doesn't offer free shipping, we've had to include shipping costs. br>With respect, br>J Green

Is it possible to wash it?

I don't believe so, because it isn't designed to be waterproof.

Why does my product's gauge read lll? It's only been 2 months, and I've already replaced the battery. ?

Taylor believes it is most likely a faulty probe. I'm aware that replacement probes are available, but if your unit is only a few months old, they may be willing to replace it for free. It's not a bad idea to ask.

It's perfect for a temperature gauge in a car
5/5

You should have a few. In a race car or a classic car, use two of them as a temperature gauge. Probe wire was able to be slid under the rubber radiator hose clamp. The factory performs better. Years later, it was still there. Keep one in the dog bed to keep track of how cold or hot the floor is for the dog. So, I take care of my best friend, the dog. He won't be able to ride the bus. One probe should be placed outside, with the probe wire being nice and long.

This is a must-have for any home brewer
5/5

This is the most accurate thermometer I've ever used. I bought several meat, kitchen, and a very expensive (100 dollar) thermometers from department stores, all of which failed miserably. The meat and kitchen thermometer leads were too short to be able to be submerged in wort or water, and if they were, they would break. The expensive thermometer's lead was submersible, but it was too short, and the unit accidentally fell into my mash, breaking the meter. br>br>This thermometer has a nearly interminable lead and is submersible. The meter's long lead makes it nearly impossible to drop it into the mash or anywhere else. If you need a thermometer, this is the one to get. The only issue with the thermometer is that you have to disassemble it in order to remove the battery, which isn't a big deal.

That is not the case
4/5

It's mounted above a counter on the back patio. When I'm out in the field, I'm always curious about the temperature, and this gives me an idea. As a retired engineer, I was hoping for precise information rather than a broad concept. What good is it to show tenths of a degree when the whole number is off by a degree or two? It was disappointing. I gave it four stars because it does the job, albeit inaccurately. Perhaps 3 is a better number.

When I checked the temperature of the mash (twice), I used this thermometer
3/5

When I was brewing beer, I used this thermometer twice to check the mash temperature. Because my previous thermometer (which I also reviewed) finally gave up the ghost after years of hard use and is currently unavailable, I bought this one: (br>br>It's difficult to find accurate food-grade thermometers that can be immersed in boiling water, but that's another story. ) The unit stopped reading correctly after the third use (it indicated that the temperature had dropped below the lowest value it could support). This usually indicates a broken or damaged lead wire, but I couldn't find one. This unit was only used three times and was in no way mistreated! Unfortunately, the warranty on this unit had expired just before it failed, so I had to purchase a more expensive unit with a replaceable thermocouple. In conclusion, based on my one-person sample size, I'd advise you to look elsewhere.

Units are excellent
5/5

These units are used to keep track of the efficiency of my air conditioning and heating systems. They perform admirably. The difference between the two units, one for in-temperature and the other for out-of-temperature, indicates how well it is working. I simply drilled two holes in the duct work near the indoor unit, one for the input and one for the output. It's great for air conditioning, but it's also great for heating!.

Two failures, but it was fun for a while
3/5

This isn't long enough to be used for home brewing. I've already completed two. LLL is now being read by both of them. The first one was overheated from the burner because the cable had fallen down along the side of the brew kettle and was too close to the burner before I realized it. The following one is the second. Because of the heat exposure, the cable covering eventually cracks and wears out. The outer sheath will crack, exposing the inner wire, which will cause temperature readings to be inaccurate. When I cut and spliced the first one, the temperature readings alternated between reality and the LLL error code. Over time, dipping this in and out of kettles, mash tuns, and fermenters in a brewery environment, this will not last long. A third is out of the question.

This is a good immersion thermometer
5/5

This was purchased for the purpose of making yogurt. I compared it to my Fluke 52 digital thermometer, which has a K-type thermometer. thermocouple of this type It's accurate to a factor of 0. The Fluke has a temperature of 5 degrees Fahrenheit. The Fluke, on the other hand, gives an exact reading in 2 seconds. It will take at least 25 seconds to complete this process. The thermocouple I use with the Fluke, on the other hand, says: I needed an inexpensive immersion thermocouple because the one I had was "not for immersion" (though it works fine). On Amazon right now, the Fluke immersion probe is $84. I figured I'd give it a shot at 95. Because the construction of an immersion probe differs from that of a bare-metal probe, I have a wire tip thermocouple on my Fluke, but it's possible that the Fluke version is much slower to give a reading; However, I've never done anything like it before. So, in conclusion, this works. is very precise. However, it is slow and does not have an on-board computer. turn off the switch To remove the cover, you must first unscrew it. If you want to turn it off, take out the battery. However, keep in mind that this is a "panel mount" thermometer, which means it's designed to be mounted somewhere where it can continuously monitor something. For this, its intended purpose, its flaws are irrelevant to me, as is the case with a pool or a fish tank. If it proves to be durable, it earns a five-star rating.

This probe lasted about 4 uses before the probe insulation failed, allowing liquid to leak into the sensor and causing it to fail
3/5

I tried splicing in a repair, but it didn't work. It was a waste of money. The probe wiring is extremely flimsy. insulating material There are no parts available for replacement. I'm going to add this to my growing list of thermometers that aren't well made. Is it difficult to create a waterproof probe that will last longer than six months? This is your niche, business owners.
