This is just a remote temperature sensor. If these are not present, the thermostat will only be able to detect temperatures at the location where it The thermostat will be able to recognize the temperature in other rooms with these devices. This will then allow the thermostat to choose whether to heat or cool based on the temperature reported by the remote sensors. In order to make that decision, the thermostat allows you to set the corresponding weighting to be given to the remote sensors

The Honeywell T9 smart thermostat requires this. Does it work with it?

As stated in the item description, these work only with the THX321WFS thermostat - which is the T10 - so I doubt this is the real deal. In addition to the T9 I own for another residence, I have purchased the sensors for that one from Honeywell. They can be ordered from the Honeywell website as Honeywell Smart Room Sensor 2 Pack, For T9/T10 Honeywell Home Thermostats - Pack of 2. The RHTSENSOR- PK/E 2

The T10 is well suited to it

In my experience, the T10 works very well with these, which I bought for use in additional rooms. As for the farthest sensor, it is about 40 feet from the T10 and is working fine. I haven't used the "activity" setting on the sensor, which uses its motion detector to let the sensor know whether any rooms are occupied, so that I can't comment. This post will be updated soon after I use this functionality.
