It appears to have been used as a display (scratches on the back). and worn appearance) do not appear to be brand new. batteries already in and possibly 30% life left since I have to angle to see display do to weak batteries but does it work yes.

With the salt solution, I performed a calibration test. You're exactly right. I like the temperature meter and the TDS readout's temp compensation. It's used to test our well water, RO water filtration, and my colloidal silver generator, among other things. I'm very happy with it.

The meter wouldn't work, so I double-checked the instructions, which were straightforward and straightforward. The meter displayed the PPM reading I needed while I was reading the instructions. Then I took the meter apart, rinsed it, and tried it again; it never worked again, only displaying temperature.
