The TDS is a hardness tester in the most basic sense. It can also be used to test other things. However, if the tds is close to zero (distilled, rain, or reverse osmosis water), this system will work. If your tank's tds is higher than 500, it doesn't mean it's dying. Some things, like cardinal tetras, will perish at this level of hardness. Other things in the water, such as excessive amonia and other things, could also be the cause. We can use this tool in the tank as a gauge to see if we need a water change once we have a general idea of what our tds should be in the fish tank. In my tank, I keep it between 150 and 200 gallons. Parts per million (ppm) is a measurement of how many parts per million there are in a Total disolved solids (tds) are another term for it. If you have a high number, it's not necessarily a sign that things are dying, but it's a bad sign for freshwater fish.

Do not rely on values without first verifying them. I'm a plumber, and I'd like to introduce myself to you. br>I always check my clients' TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) levels because they've been skyrocketing in our area. br>I have two more meters in my possession. One says 257, the other says 254, and the third says 152 in this case. br>Errors like these can lead me to deceive my client by making them believe everything is fine when they are actually dealing with hard water. br>I always check the water with two different meters, and the results are all close, except for this one, which is a long way off. br>As a rule of thumb, always compare the results of two different brand meters. Never trust the results of just one.
