Wine Thief does not fit in smaller carboys but is a great buy

It was an amazing buy, the hydrometer showed clear markings and it was easy to read, and the wine thief does seem to work. My only complaint was that the wine thief did not fit in my 1 gallon carboys (they are sealed with a #6 cork, if that gives you an idea about the size of the opening), which was quite disappointing. But, since I bought it primarily for the hydrometer, and because the cost of this product was well within the range of what I could expect to pay for either of the items I ordered, I think I can overlook the wine thief not fitting into my gallon carboy. Before buying, though, you should clearly make sure that it fits your carboys if you are primarily looking for it to hide the wine thief.

It is a nice item, but it is not well executed

I thought it was fine for what it was. You will end up with a barely half filled tube if you put this into a carboy that is not filled to the brim. Therefore, you may lose your hydrometer in the middle of the tube and may not be able to retrieve it to do a new gravity test. There may be foul-smelling foam in the reservoir, which will make the hydrometer stick to the side so that you cannot get a reading. In this case, you will have to empty and When this needs to be done several times to achieve the appropriate conditions, one of two things will happen It is either that you dump whatever home brew you have to have every time you test, or that you prepare a new batch every time. You are draining it back into your fermenter, putting potential contaminants into the mixture. There may be people who will work with the process, but make sure it will suit them.
