Questions & Answers
Although it may be necessary, simply spinning the hydrometer and forcing the bubbles off the surface should provide an accurate reading. This is how I make my mead, and it always works.

This is an excellent item. It's simple to operate, and it comes with a variety of carry cases for added protection. Only two things stand out: the hydrometer itself sits in a tube with two caps instead of one, and the tube has two caps instead of one. Take care not to let the hydrometer fall to the ground. A 100 ml graduated cylinder would also be more practical than a 250 ml cylinder. But that's a minor quibble. Overall, I'd highly recommend this product and the supplier based on the price and materials provided. Also, I'm not sure if it was mentioned in the description, but Daniel, the guy, sent me a 36-page e-mail. The history of brewing, terminology, and how to make various drinks are all included in this book. There are also an additional eight e-books available. The book includes instructions on how to use the hydrometer as well as information on what a dry, medium, and sweet mead hydrometer reading should be. I'm not going to lie, this seller has provided excellent customer service to the point where it should be the gold standard. I don't usually write reviews, but I hope someone buys a hydrometer based on mine.
For the price, I should have known better, but the lack of a test cylinder in the kit disappointed me. I was convinced it did, so I went back to look at the description and photos again. In the photos, what I mistook for a cylinder is actually the hydrometer's hard storage case. br>br>It'll still work; I just assumed it did.
This product was purchased and delivered exactly as I had anticipated. An additional email from the company was sent to me with some e-mail addresses. I'm looking for books that will help me understand how to use my hydrometer. I'd never used anything like this before, so I had to look it up online to figure out how to use it properly. It's what I'm using to see how much sugar and alcohol my kombucha has. I've taken some preliminary readings for my current brew and plan to use it to calculate my numbers at the end of fermentation. It was easy to read and came in a lovely storage bag.
Nice quality, great price, but requires a lot of test beer to gauge content; I saw this in several reviews and decided to take a chance because this unit was so cheap and I knew something wouldn't be perfect, but at the very least usable. If you sanitize the container first, you can simply dump it back in without worrying about the volume.
This has been extremely beneficial in the preparation of water kefir and kombucha. I try to eat a low-sugar diet, and this hydrometer helps me make sure my home brews are as sugar-free as possible.
This was purchased along with a brew kit so that my boyfriend could learn how to brew beer. It took him a while to get into it, but since COVID-II was released, he hasn't looked back. We've been having a lot of fun brewing since the 19th hit. The measuring tube, hydrometer with cushioned box, and drawstring bag for storage are all included in this attractive package. Because the bag is too short to fully close over the measuring tube, that part isn't very useful. We haven't been able to get a consistent reading on the hydrometer. Our initial gravity readings were extremely low, and our final gravity readings were completely different - slightly less than the original, or even more than the original. To make sure it wasn't user error, I made sure I was at 60 degrees for readings and that the meniscus was taken into account. I also calibrated with another hydrometer at a local brew shop, and we discovered a different reading as well as different spacing on the measurement slip. I've discovered that the hydrometer I received is simply not accurate enough for measuring the alcohol content of beer, so I won't be able to use it.
After placing my order, I received an email with helpful hints and an ebook in the mail. This business values its customers and goes above and beyond to ensure their satisfaction. This is a product that I would recommend to any home brewer!.
The product comes with only a few instructions on how to use it. However, the link that was sent with this product and included extensive instruction in the form of an eBook is broken and no longer works. I reached out to the Seller, but received no response. If the calibration is off and I don't know how to calibrate it, it defeats the purpose of using the hydrometer. If you're reading this, Seller, please send me the eBook link. br>NEW ON 6/8/2020: They emailed me the documents on calibrating the hydrometer after I left a 2 star review and attempted to contact the Seller for the hydrometer instructions a second time. I'm giving it a four-star rating because of the difficulty I had in getting the instructions after the hydrometer arrived uncalibrated.
