I agree, yes. Just to keep track of my weight, I bought this scale. In order for the scale to be reset to zero, you must install the gambrel hook PERIOD before you reset the scale. Attach the hook just before you elevate the deer so the weight of the hook does not add to the weight of the deer.

In terms of updating/refreshing the display when weight is applied, is it instant? Can you tell me if there is ?

When the scale is situated at eye level or above, the LCD display is easy to read, but if you are looking down at it, it is difficult to read. It says the charge is provided by 2x AAA batteries in the Amazon description. As for the item I received (blue color model), it takes 3x AA batteries which were not included, therefore, I took away one point. Other than that, it works fine. The data is used to estimate the bow's draw weight. Due to the constant nature of normal weighing, my comment here IS not relevant to any other use.

Nice product I just wish there were an option to "freeze" the display when the weight is at its highest level. Consequently, I have to gaze at the scale constantly as I slowly draw down my compound bow until it reaches maximum draw and just before the release, until it is at its maximum draw. This one shortcoming doesn't even even come close to being a deal-breaker. No regrets, though, and I'll use it for other things - not at all important The breaking point. As I've seen comments here, I've seen that the rubber gaskets for the metal loop are to be attached to the top part of the item. The truth is, I am not sure why some people find that hard to figure out, but if it is, then it isn't the instruction or the unit itself. Basically you removed the cotter pin from the bolt, slide the bolt out of the loop, installed the rubber washers in the recesses at the top of the unit, and slid the loop over the washers (it fit Once the cotter pin is replaced, make sure it is bent out far enough so that it does not slip out of the bolt.

Worked fine. I used rubber washers on the top shackle, but I had to tweak the housing constantly for it to work, so it shut off every time I lifted anything. It hasn't been an issue since I removed the rubber washers. My only complaint is that the screen is hard to read if you are angled at an extreme angle. To read it, it has to be in front of you straight on.

I think you got a good deal for the price

As far as what it is, it is not bad at all. It would have been better if it were a little more rugged, but it's pretty good for the price. I tested it on a small food scale for weights under 15 pounds, as well as on a large postal scale for 4,400 There was an extremely close relationship between the two.
