Questions & Answers

When this sensor is submerged, how does it transmit data? Bluetooth signal appears to be blocked by water. I'd like to mount it about a foot below the surface of the water. ?

It doesn't; I have mine attached to a piece of fishing line, and when I want to read it, I simply pull it up and press the button to turn on Bluetooth.

Is there any built-in memory, or is it only real-time?

The logger comes with onboard memory and can store up to 96k readings.

Would the temperature of the surface it's attached to (say, a pipe) be accurately captured by the backside?

You wouldn't want to link this to anything that could lead to erroneous results. The results may be influenced if the pipe temperature differs from the water temperature you're measuring. If that is the goal, I'm not sure the unit can accurately measure pipe temperature.

Is it possible for the iOS software to monitor four sensors at the same time?

The iOS app can connect to multiple loggers, but you can only be actively connected to one at a time. There is an overview screen where you can see all loggers within range and their last reading; however, if you want to download or view a complete data set, you must connect to each logger one at a time. The free desktop software allows you to view multiple logger files in one graph.

We've used other data loggers in the past. They were bigger and more labor-intensive. This device, which is about the size of a man's wristwatch, is extremely powerful. I can read the current temperature and/or download the logs from a cooler by standing near it.

It's not impossible to figure out how to use HOBOmobile and HOBOlink, but it's not easy. The people at Onset are extremely friendly and accommodating. This is where we put different insulation packouts for perishable shipping to the test.

My phone and I enjoy using Bluetooth to access data

With an iPhone or Android, you can program, readout, and download data in the field. Although I would prefer greater temperature absolute accuracy, my application is concerned with temperature comparisons. not the actual temperature. It's helping me track temperature changes in springs and streams.

Simple to use and precise The MX2201 was used to show a refrigerator manufacturer that the internal temperature fluctuated significantly (10 degrees F) throughout the day

The ability to store a large amount of data is more important than absolute accuracy in that application. The Hobo has a capacity of 13 years if I set it to sample once an hour. Amazing. They're pricey, but what possible reason would you have to go cheap for a product this good?.
