We bought this after finding several stray animals/runaways so that we could research the owners instead of having to go to a vet's office, and it has proven to be a valuable tool in reuniting pets with their families. We have a variety of chips, and it has read them all, both old and new. Many people are unaware that the chips move around in the body and are not always in the same place. They then say they don't work and send them back. If you don't get it over the shoulders on the first pass, you'll have to run it over your entire body.
I'm going on a transatlantic cruise with my dog from New York to Southampton. The ability to scan her microchip is subject to strict guidelines. I became so paranoid that I decided to purchase a scanner to ensure that we could read it both on board and when we disembarked in the United Kingdom. It really works! I'm very happy with the product; it's light and simple to use. It's simple to read her microchip! Molly is equipped with a chip that allows her to return home.
This little guy has decoded hundreds of chips at the shelter where I work. Not only that, but it was left in a cage by accident, chewed up pretty badly, and still works. It only needs to be charged once in a while and is small enough to fit in your pocket. You will not be dissatisfied with this purchase.
It recognized all of my animals' chips (which we have a lot of because we live on a farm and do rescue work). The following are the brands that we used it on: This read home again, microfindr, pet chip 911, and the generic pet ID tags sold on this website without any issues.
I wasn't expecting it to be pocket-sized, but I'm delighted. The fact that it is so small in comparison to the ones used at the vet is adorable. IT WORKS EXACTLY AS IT SHOULD. Both of my cats' microchips (Home Again brand) were quickly read. They were upfront about the fact that it would take a few weeks to arrive.
Because one of my pets has a 10-digit number instead of a 15-digit number, I purchased this item in preparation for relocating overseas. (I was told a few days before departure that it was required to transport my pet). It arrived on time and in good condition, but neither of my pets could be read by it. I even took it to my veterinarian for help, and they couldn't get it to work. They used their reader to show me that my pet does, in fact, have a chip, and they tried my reader on other animals in the office, but it still didn't work. I was unable to return it or place an order for a replacement due to a lack of time. Fortunately, my pets were transported without incident, and I was never asked to scan them with my reader, nor were they scanned during transport; however, if you decide to purchase this, my advice is to do so early enough to test it out and replace it if it does not work.
I work in animal rescue (cats) as well as dog breeding, so I've put this thing through its paces. It's always worked perfectly, it's simple to use, charge, and use, and it lasts a long time; I especially like that it's not unwieldy and massive like the ones I've seen at veterinarian offices, but it's easily as good as theirs.
This scanner is small, easy to use, and has a long battery life. br>br>I use it to look for stray animals and shelter intakes. It got a 2 out of 3 on my personal dogs, not reading one of the older Home Again chips but picking up the two ISO chips in a matter of seconds. br>br>So, use with caution, understanding that just because it doesn't pick up a chip doesn't mean it isn't there. It's possible that the chip is from a previous generation. If you have any doubts, always double-check with your veterinarian.
