really well, a lot better than anything on the market powered by 9v. I have found these toners to be very valuable when used properly as an electrical contractor. The unit from the same manufacturer is almost 4 times higher in price, and the unit makes by that manufacturer corrects these flaws. I gave it four stars because of the small flaws. The issue is not worth mentioning if you do not have experience troubleshooting electrical systems. I use an Ammeter for work that requires low voltage (network, etc). I wouldn't recommend it for anything with low voltage.

My thumb went numb when I tried to hold the button down on a new one to replace an old one. My company got another and it was identical to the first. However, our company does not use the amprobe product we've been using for so many years. In any case, Amazon was really helpful when it came to returning the two I received. I am very disappointed.

As accurate as any cheap breaker tracer or wire locator that you may find at the Home Depot is not necessary. Using a cheap Zircon wire tracer, I got just as many false positives and changing results as I did with multiple scans. I have only ever used it as a breaker tracer and like every other tracer, it has only narrowed my search I expected a lot more, but this worked fine for me.
