DC Voltage will not be detected by this tester. There are testers on the market that can test for both DC and AC, but not this one! Higher voltages, such as 110 or 220, will be detected by this tester. br>br>It will also detect up to 48 V AC, which is used in irrigation timers and solenoids on top of sprinkler valves, and other similar devices, but it will not detect DC.
Yes, it comes with a battery. When I got my package, there was one in there. I bought this set a long time ago, and the battery is still working fine.

The issue I'm having is that I need a ncv tester that can go from 12 to 48 volts, then 48 to 1000 volts. This will allow me to measure 24 volts from a stepdown transformer while other high-voltage wire is in the vicinity. I deal with a lot of three-phase 480 and 208 volt systems. br>br>THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS METER DOES. The image on Amazon does not exactly match what I sent. br>br>NCVT- is what I'm looking for. There are only two models available. If your tester has anything else stamped on it, it's not the one I'm looking for. br>br>AMAZON MESSED UP TWICE WITH THIS. THEY EITHER DON'T UNDERSTAND OR DON'T WANT TO.

I wasn't sure what breaker the lights were connected to since my previous dimmer broke. I was unable to turn on the lights or reset the circuit breakers. This is a non-profit organization in which I have invested. Voltage tester with contact. I'm glad I did because I had a minor zap years ago. I flipped breakers until the light in my dining room turned off after I plugged it in. Only the overhead light was on a separate circuit labeled garage! My advice is to be safe and TEST to ensure that the power is truly turned off. I wish the probe was longer; when I tested it on an old dimmer switch with the power turned on, it indicated power was off. To get the probe closer to the wires, I had to unscrew the old dimmer and pull it out a little. When testing a receptacle, this was not the case; simply place the probe next to a hole and it will light up. Ensure that you test on both levels of sensitivity. I had an outdoor junction box that wasn't clearly marked, so I turned off the breaker that was supposed to feed this circuit, but the line remained hot. Another breaker and two feeds to this box were discovered! It's a good idea to have one on hand at all times.
This is a great product; I use several of them when tracing circuits in control panels that have a mix of high and low voltage; this tester works great. I don't use the tester that plugs into the socket because I test everything else. This is an excellent tool, and the company is well-known; you will not be disappointed.
It has a sound and a light indicator (vibration would have been ideal, but you can't have it all, lol). It also accurately detects 24 volt control voltage, which is a huge benefit in heating and cooling systems. It's not complicated; you can tell if there's voltage and whether it's low or high right away. It runs on two standard triple A batteries and is well-made and weatherproof. Even on a sunny day, the lights are bright and easy to see. I've been purchasing these since they first became available, and this is without a doubt one of the best. My two sons are also in the trade, so I bought them both.
Despite the fact that Fluke is a better brand, Klein Tools' tester is excellent. It's sold in a set of one non-returnable bottle. One contract tester and one receptacle tester were assigned to the project. I've tried the non-contact tester in an electrical box and it works fine. Just keep in mind that it's so sensitive that it can pick up current on one side of the wire but not the other. Also, and this is VERY IMPORTANT: BEFORE GOING INTO AN OPEN ELECTRICAL BOX, ALWAYS TEST IN A KNOWN WORKING RECEPTACLE! Before you start looking for a box with a lot of wires, make sure the tester works at a known hot outlet. When you turn off the circuit breaker, some of them may be hot, while others may still be energized by the panel. Hire an electrician if you don't understand any or all of this! A good buy on the whole.
Even with the entire circuit cut to the entire house, the first time I tried to use it, I got intermittent beeps. Is it my house, which has a stray live wire, or this tester? So I called the manufacturer, who informed me that it was most likely defective, which was inconvenient and potentially dangerous. It wouldn't pick up a live outlet at times, and my dog even got it to light up. I understand that it detects magnetic fields, but it wasn't always consistent. I returned it through Amazon because I didn't want to go through the hassle of getting a replacement. Instead, I'm going to use my multimeter.
