There are two types of tick tracers: one with a rounded tip and a yellow bottom that doesn't have an on/off button but indicates power when touched. That is the one I prefer.
There is only one tracer.

I decided to try this FLUKE voltage tester after giving my KLEIN voltage tester to my builder. The FLUKE detector, unlike the KLEIN, does not detect voltage at an outlet's face - It also lacks the KLEIN's distinctive sound. In order for the probe to work, it must be practically touching the wire with power. I like that there is no need to press the power button and that the button is only used to test the battery. I will, however, replace it with a new KLEIN. I'm giving it three stars because it's not as good as the KLEIN.
I will only use Fluke voltage detectors in my life and on my equipment. I'm an electrician who works on a variety of projects ranging from industrial to residential renovations, ditches to towers, and everything in between. br>br>This is always the case- In every way, the on-line version is superior. Over the years, I've blown out several pairs of $30 cutters by using the old version that you have to turn on, because it's possible to make the mistake of turning the unit off (thinking you're turning it on) or having it time out and turn off after thousands of hours of use. br>br>The only thing to keep in mind with any voltage tester is that it can and will give false "voltage present" when dealing with conductors that are close together, resulting in faint "ghost voltage. " br>br>Excellent product; anyone in any trade, as well as most homeowners, should have one.
It's small and portable, so you can take it with you wherever you go. It's also very easy to hide. There's also a lot of silence. Like many other testers, it does not make the loud beeping noises. It has a battery test button, which is fantastic because it allows you to check the battery before using it. If you're doing electrical work in a place where people work or conduct business, the absence of beeping noise is fantastic. You won't have to worry about people looking at you or wondering what all the noise is about; it's a high-quality item that's well worth the money.
I'm an IBEW electrician who primarily works in commercial construction and TI (tenant improvement), so I require something precise and reliable. While I always recommend hiring a professional, this is a useful tool for determining whether or not voltage is present. This is NOT a substitute for a digital meter; rather, it is a first step in ensuring that there is no voltage present.
This one is both reliable and easy to use, which is exactly what I was looking for! I've read that some other brands have a lot of false signals, but this one is set so that it's not overly sensitive and, in most cases, it doesn't signal the presence of power unless it's actually in contact with the wire (or plug, etc. ). This is exactly what I was looking for: more precise than quick and easy, but with a higher number of false alarms. Of course, keep in mind that these types of testers are only for a quick check, and you should use other tools like plug-in testers instead. To be sure, use a multimeter or a tester, especially if you're a DIYer.
Regrettably, I am no longer eligible for a refund. It's possible that using this voltage detector is risky. It makes no sound, and when a wire is energized, it blinks whenever it feels like it. I was about to cut an energized wire because it did not blink when I put it near and around a wire, but I changed my mind and decided to use my multimeter at the connector, which revealed that it was energized. It also blinks in the open air from time to time.
I'd give it a 0 out of 5 star rating if I could. As I removed it from the Amazon package and cut the blister pack, the LED indicator flashed. When the device was lightly tapped, it blinked. It would not, however, indicate a live circuit on a hot receptacle. This product is overpriced and dangerous, so don't put your life in its hands.
