Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use this to find a snagged underground invisible fence wire?

No, it is not going to happen. Your dog is wearing a shock collar, which makes an underground invisible fence work. A short-range, low-power radio signal is all that is on the wire. This device is designed to test a standard electric fence, which uses thousands of volts to energize the wire.

When testing the fence, what does it mean if all of the leds flash? This meter should be able to test my fence transformer, which is 5000k volts. ?

5000k volts is not a realistic number; 5000k is equal to 5,000,000 volts. The tester's range is 5000 Volts, and the reading is indicated by a blinking light next to the highest voltage. All lights are probably blinking due to the highest peak surge.

Please let me know if A. is correct. It can be left outside in the rain, and it's also B. If it's possible to leave it connected to the fence indefinitely to serve as a permanent indicator. Please accept my sincere thanks. ?

If you're looking for a way to monitor your fence that isn't waterproof, look at the electric fence monitors on this page. I was worried about the same thing at the time, but now that it's been three years, I only check it once or twice a month.

Does this work with netting that is powered by electricity?

That is correct. I've used it on poultry netting that is powered by electricity.

In the daylight, I'm unable to see
3/5

This item was purchased to test the output of a new electric fence that I had installed. Because I couldn't see it flashing, I didn't believe it worked. By touching the fence, I was able to determine whether it was safe or not. It was clear that the fence was effective. I took the tester out late at night and put it to the test. It seemed to be working. The problem is that it does not flash in direct sunlight. This is most likely something that should be mentioned in the description. I'm going to keep the item and use it at night.

Uses a fence charger with a voltage of 9000 V
5/5

LED bulbs aren't as bright as neon bulbs. It works well, and I can see in daylight if I shade the lights with my hand; reading is much easier in the shade or in the evening light. This technique makes use of NE2. To indicate voltage, use neon bulbs instead of LEDs. Although many competitors claim to use LEDs, this is not the case. Neon bulbs aren't a problem, but getting something fancier with real LEDs or a real meter will set you back a pretty penny. About 60 years have passed since these neon bulbs were created. They're tough and can withstand thousands of volts, so this tester should last a very long time. In my case, I had a brand new high-capacity fence charger with a range of 100 miles. The topmost bulb barely flickered, indicating that the charger was in good working order and was producing 9000 volts. That is precisely what I was looking for.

Well, it sort of works
3/5

The meter is compact and simple to operate. It's also safe, allowing you to register a wide range of voltages without risking a shock, but it's difficult to read in bright sunlight. The indicators are neon bulbs, which are nearly invisible in daylight. To see the indicators, I had to wait until it was dark. They weren't particularly bright even back then. Because the charger is only connected to a bird feeder by an 8-foot line, this worked for me. It would be a pain in the rear to check a fence that could be a mile long if I used this on a farm. However, the cost was reasonable for my needs.

Would have been a five star if the lights weren't so bright
4/5

The task was completed successfully. I discovered a shattered jumper that I had no idea was shattered. I couldn't figure out why the fence hadn't been hot in months. This little guy saved me from having to keep touching the fence with my hand or bribing a child to do it. To see the dang lights, you either have to work late or hide under something with your handheld. During the day, it's difficult to notice them.

Crap! I couldn't get it to work right away
3/5

This was a complete failure. I bought it on April 15th, along with fencing materials for an upcoming electric fence project, but I didn't open it or try it out right away because it can't be used until the fencing is up and running. I finally finished my fencing two days ago (it had been put on hold due to the corona virus) and tried to use the tester, but it wouldn't work. I went online to request a return or exchange, but the deadline had passed on May 31st!! This isn't the first time I've had a negative experience with Amazon.

DOESN'T WORK IN THIS SITUATION
3/5

I attempted to use this item on my corral fencing several times. It was never turned on. I even replaced the electric fence base and it still wouldn't work. I had no choice but to touch live wire, which is a horrible experience. It was a scorching hot fence. BUY THIS ITEM AT YOUR OWN RISK.

It is extremely simple to operate
5/5

It is difficult to say it does not pin point anyone specific number, it is very easy to use, and it is easy to read as long as it is dark outside, but overall it is exactly what you want if you want to know if your fence is working and you aren't looking to spend a lot of money.

It's great for measuring higher voltages, but it doesn't have a low enough setting for a low-voltage fence
4/5

For high voltages, this is a fantastic product. Our fence voltage, on the other hand, is purposefully kept low, and this product was unable to detect it. The return process was straightforward, and we've since tried a different model that is more sensitive to lower voltage.
