I've had to do a lot of atypical miters, and the way I do it is to cut one miter angle and then measure it to figure out the other angle. This has worked well, but if you don't have the necessary space to expand the Gem Red, it can be difficult. Overall, this is an outstanding and highly accurate tool. However, in order to work in tighter spaces, I needed to purchase a smaller digital angle finder. I would never go back to non-digital after working with it.
The size of the corner will determine this. My angle finder is a number eight. The length is 55 inches, and the width is just under one inch. The pivot end has a radius that is slightly smaller than half the width of the two straight edges when closed, so the corner must be large enough for the tool to fit inside. You can make a mockup of the tool with the dimensions I've provided and the angle you require to see if it fits the corner you desire.

I make my living by operating a 20-foot press brake. That is, angles are at the heart of everything I do. Over the years, I've used a variety of protractors, from Sterrett to Mitutoyo, as well as five or six others. My good protractor is a Sterrett cast iron piece from a combination square set I picked up for a few hundred dollars. I make use of both the tri- and the quad- Every hour of every day, use the square and the protractor. br>br>However, this thing blows them out of the water like a nuclear torpedo, despite its low cost. br>br>Seriously, the amount of time I spend checking angles has been cut in half or more. It has reasonable accuracy (certainly within our 1/2 degree shop tolerance) and is extremely simple to operate. The digital readout is simple to read, which is a boon to my tired eyes. (I couldn't read my old Sterritt without reading glasses, which I couldn't wear while running my machine, so I had to constantly switch glasses. ) Yes, I have bifocal safety glasses, but they're a pain to put on while operating my machine. )br>br>However, there are some drawbacks. I'll happily live with the disadvantages. br>br>First and foremost, this item is of poor quality. I don't think it'll outperform in my environment. the batteries are still in good condition It'll be all right. I'll just buy another one for the price and the amount of time it saves me. However, there is a disadvantage: the battery is prone to falling out. br>br>Second, the battery is prone to falling out. The battery compartment, unlike some other devices, cannot be easily taped shut. But, hey, it's a small price to pay. It doesn't fall completely out, just far enough to turn off the light. All you have to do now is push the tray in. br>br>Third, it forgets it's zero after it self-destructs. the device is turned off It's not a big deal, but if you leave it sitting at a certain angle for lunch, it will have reset that angle to zero when you return. It's a minor annoyance that's easy to fix. br>br>Aside from these annoyances, this is an excellent product for the money, and it performs admirably. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because of the three reasons listed above, but I almost did. br>br>I'd marry it if someone could make it almost exactly like this, but with slightly thicker blades and a higher-quality mechanism. br>br>(Note: This is a shortened version of the original. ) I work in a large industrial job shop, where I spend most of my time bending 3/8 to 1/2 plate. In addition, I bend to a maximum of 1. 25 plate, with 11ga thrown in for good measure. It's all up to a length of 20 feet. This is the best solution I've ever had for going down a 20-foot length of 3/16 plate and checking for angle consistency. Bar none.

After testing every digi and manual on the market, I've come to the conclusion that This one came out on top. br>It's far from perfect, but it outperforms every other model I've tried.
Pros: Angle acquisition is quick with a digital readout. I've never needed a more precise sensor. It's accurate to one tenth of a degree. There is no need to squint one eye because there is no parallax error in the readout. Because of the large radius of the lead edge, it can be used to measure the interior angles of work pieces with a radius of up to. Interior radius of 68"br>Cons: The positive lock on the battery tray is excellent, and it tends to displace itself over time. The prong is also not well designed for solid contact, so the battery will most likely outlast the contacts. That's a shame, but it's better than an $80 manual with a missed weld and an incorrectly calibrated indicator mark right out of the box. Other ideas: br>br> To make it easier to hang, I cut the lead blade down to 3" and reamed the hole on the other end. I wish that was an option in the design process.
When I opened the battery slot to install the battery after receiving it and opening the box, a small piece of metal fell out. Not good. It turned out to be one of the battery contacts that needed to be soldered to the circuit board, and I needed it for work the next day, so I ordered it with Prime same-day shipping. I had to go to the hardware store first thing in the morning to pay more for a similar item, but it worked!.
For the past 5 years, I've been a weekend woodworker; Some furniture is being made, but the majority of it is military flags and shadow boxes. My mitered corners were occasionally less than perfect, and all I had to help me out were combo squares and the big orange speed squares. As a result, I had great miters on occasion and needed twice as much wood filler on other occasions. br>br>Let's get to this useful tool right away. I needed to cut a 45-degree angle in half and only had 22. I needed to get close on the band saw and finish on the 12 in stationary disc sander because my miter saw couldn't cut that size. The angle finder locks into place, allowing me to get up close and personal with the band saw before sanding to perfection. You can use it to verify the setup of your saw and other shop tools, as well as find and recreate angles. br>br>I also used it to validate the 90 and 45 of my plastic speed squares. It turned out that the one I'd had for years wasn't 45, so whenever I used it for projects, I was guaranteed to get subpar results.
