The welder settings are shown according to the plate thickness, so this is a very practical gauge for welding students who are just starting out. My mark on accuracy is a bit lower than normal since I checked the slots against my machinist gauges and found each one to have a small difference from the published dimensions. Because the dimensions of the objects are so close that they don't matter, it's not a huge deal. During the course of welding, an experienced welder can see effortlessly what the thickness of the steel is and is able to proceed with confidence. In my opinion, this is a simple and inexpensive device for beginners because it tells them the same thing that the 3/8" gauge does. However, when they put a 1/8 plate into the appropriate slot, it is almost, but not quite, the same thing. As the size is close enough to work with, you will be able to determine which one to select. There is no doubt that the slots are stamped, However, for students, this is an ideal product. Because of the low price and the features, they will appreciate it.
My keys are just the way I wanted them. I have a metal gauge that is almost as wide, but not quite as wide as my Hobart. Despite having a slimmer profile, I still like it. Furthermore, I like my Hobart gauge better because it's easier to read.
Useful if you are walking through the steelyard looking at metal or setting up metal at home to be fabricated.
I found this product to be very useful and well worth the money. It is useful to know the thickness of steel products when shopping for them.
It's like such a great tool, I have a tendency to lose things and spend more time looking for small items than I do doing the actual job. I just ordered 2 more, so as not to waste time Hang it on my belt or put it in my pocket, but I tend to be under things and things get lost
Too cheap to take the time to see if the gauge is misplaced.
A mother company sent one, and I ordered one from a different Unlike the other, this one arrived quickly, while the other is still on a boat from China.
It has only been recently that I have begun working with Metal sheets of "gauge" thickness do not feel good to the touch. The thickness of this is easy to check on my shop's wall since it is pretty inexpensive to do so. Initially, I thought I would use it as a key-ring, but since it is sharp, I wouldn't recommend it. But I plan on buying a second I have two garages, one in the garage and the other in the basement.
For any metal worker, this is a must-have. You get the "what the heck is going on here" looks when you whip this out. A wire gauge and metal gauge can be used. The guesswork involved with mig welder wire has been put to rest, oh my. The number 035 is correct! Haha, yes it is! I have added a new staple tool to my collection.
I received the product quickly and it was Despite the fact that I'm a welder and know my metal quite well, I use this as a handy reference tool to double check things, if multiple pieces are stacked together and of different gauges where necessary. Any metal worker can benefit from having this tool.
