Questions & Answers

Do you have the weather vane attached to this unit?

Basically a question / answer relating to the topic It comes with a weather vane attachment and a little carrying case when you order the Kestrel / Bushnell 1 mile CONX combination. This is the only picture I took. We did not expect it to be like that, but it was a pleasant surprise

I am interested in the FDE version only. Can you provide it with the link?

Brian L, We don't sell this item, so I apologize for the inconvenience. Thanks for asking, Sylvie

What kind of compass does this have?

I agree with you As well as wind direction, the device records its orientation to the target. In terms of orienteering, this would not be an easy device to use.

Would you recommend the Bushnell 1 mile range finder or another? This model (Elite) is said to work with Bushnell 1 miles using Conx. ?

There is a possibility that it will link, but I am unaware of how it works. As far as ranging goes, I have the Sig Kilo2200. Providing a link is not necessary for me. I believe that Kestrel might work with Kilo2400, but I have not tried it. Take the range, input it into Kestrel, and fire.

It is the most amazing one-item shooting solution I've ever seen
5/5

While I have used Kestrel for field work and other applications before, I have never used them for shooting and you can expect the same level of performance as scientists have come to depend on with Kestrel. As I was deciding what model to get, it took a long time to determine if I should get a unit which does not include ballistic information and just use the software on my phone or if I should spend the extra money to get the all-in-one model. A single solution is available. Several reasons motivated me to spend the extra money on this unit, and one of them is that I am glad I did. First of all, it's one less device, one less thing to depend on, and one less thing to set up and worry about while you're A kestrel will also operate in temperature and weather extremes that will not be possible with a phone. Having the phone interface is nice at times because it gives the shooter a bigger screen, GPS capability etc. so there are times where it is nice to use the unit with the phone, but it is nice to be able to use it It is easier to set up than it looks, and there are several examples online that make it very simple for you to learn how to do it once you have everything dialed in. Those are the two benefits I very much look forward to.

The answer is yes! What the heck are you talking about! A range finder such as this works well with my Sig unit. What a great idea! In my time of wait for the 5700 Elite with link, I went to the company's website and found they have all the information We provide manuals, software, links, and step-by-step instructions. It is a well done website that makes life As a result, I have For so long I had no use for all these goodies on my 308 system. The extent of technical advancement and cost of setting up a new school system weren't around when I was setting up old school services. As I am retiring, I will no longer be The 308 Rifle and the 6 are both new purchases. I think this will allow me to gain a better understanding of how this system works, and with less pain and frustration. It's an excellent work of art! It will be my pleasure to put it through its.

Wow! That's a great device! As a long range shooter, I do a lot of Wow! That's a great device! The kestrel /applied ballistics calculator works best for my long range shooting
5/5

Ballistic apps and Internet programs do work, but I find them to be okay. In a crosswind, it considers the differences in aerodynamic jumps as well. One of the nicest things is that you don't have to manually input all the environmental information, as it takes care of everything you need without requiring the shooter to put in a lot of effort. If you compare this with other ballistic solvers, there are far more variables that get considered. Hits are effected downrange as a result. There has been a dramatic decrease in my vertical spread. My decision was difficult because I had a hard time choosing whether to go with Bluetooth or not. The non-profit seemed to be the best choice Kestrel's version of Bluetooth is LinK (LinK for short). It is not a regret at all for me. Get the link if you prefer to enter bullet / gun profiles on your smartphone. However, you can also use the phone app to do it pretty quickly. It is also easier to update firmware and load custom drag curves created by Bryan Litz using the Bluetooth. In my opinion, this wasn't important since I point my bullets anyway, and his numbers don't matter to me. have also found that lot to lot variations in bullets will result in lot to lot variations in bullet characteristics. Having Bluetooth access would be nice if you plan to stay prone for an extended period of time while your weathervane is attached to your It would be silly to hold a Kestrel game in one hand and an iPhone in the other if you are constantly moving around in PRS style games. Using the Kestrel display, you can get all the information you need.

Long-awaited, easy to use, and takes away all the guesswork I like to shoot at ranges
5/5

have had my first shooting session with my Kestrel Elite today, and I was blown away at how well it performed. After contacting a friend, we engaged a new weapon and scope and zeroed them at 100 yards. From there we raised the distance further and further upwards into the range, setting up steel targets at a maximum distance of 600 yards. My role was to act as a spotter while he was shooting, and to call

Because the rifle and scope were brand new and the ammunition information was from a load library and not past experience, it was quite impressive how the rifle and scope shifted to the next further target and ring steel with ease. The shooting was impressive at 600 yards, getting a 24" target consistently while hitting a 12" target more than half the time. I brought along a printed ballistic table for the load just in case, but decided not to use it at all. Although it disagreed somewhat with Kestrel solutions, it would not have helped with wind no less. I will no longer bother to print tables on my future projects.

One of the annoying limitations is that you can't have both a phone and laser rangefinder connected together at the same time because the Bluetooth radio on the Kestrel must be indifferent In addition, I have a Bushnell Elite 1 Mile CONX rangefinder that can transmit distance and inclination angle information to the Kestrel, but when I try to connect the Kestrel Link app on my iPhone, it is unable to do so. To me, it is preferable to look at the target and manually record the distance and inclination information. As far as the issues with Bluetooth connectivity are concerned, I have only had one instance of them. During one try to send a gun library to the Kestrel, the iOS Kestrel Link app crashed on me, and after that I could not get the app to connect again, Eventually, I turned off and back on the Bluetooth on the Kestrel and the issue was fixed. The same result would have been achieved by restarting Kestrel.

In general, I am extremely pleased with the system as a whole. Getting started has been made a lot easier thanks to the YouTube videos from Kestrel and Panhandle Precision. The unit has many features I have not even explored yet, but it is already an essential part of my bag moving forward.

Update It should also be noted that I had attempted to shoot the 600 yard targets by estimating holds and referring to paper ballistic tables previously. In all my time with them, I never hit.
