Not counting the curved corners, 9" x 13" is the size. Approximately an inch can be removed from either end of the bottom of the bottom compartment with a standard 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper.
Although the handles fold down, the basket in itself is not collapsible.

In contrast, if your basket was hung from a sturdy support that could support any weight you had, you would be at the mercy of the wire handles, Neither my gauges nor the diameter of this wire are particularly clear to me, but the wire on these handles is an open loop that is about 1/4" wide. Accordingly, I would guess it would not be a problem if you were able to load 100 pounds into it.

My Nova Star 8 walker is ideal for holding this basket as it is really strong and fits perfectly. It is able to carry a lot of items as you can see in the picture. Unlike the hand baskets found in the store, it's strong enough to handle heavier loads. This is what I got for I was no longer able to get the hand baskets on the shelves due to theft and counterfeiting. As far as I know, it can carry other items besides groceries. This basket is a great asset to me because it helps me make things easier for myself.
What a gorgeous basket! I'm in love with it. My family uses them so much that I bought 2 and will buy another 2. Normally my husband steals them when he is carrying too many tools when he is carrying them around. I mostly use them in the garden, though occasionally they are stolen by me. With apples, pears, plums, potatoes, onions, garlic, squash, and much more, I have filled the basket to overflowing. (This is not advised those rubber coated handles don't feel so great with 40- degree temperatures. They're filled with 50 pounds of fruit and veggies! like that I can fill the baskets with both large AND small items, and I don't have to worry that they will collapse or that the tiny items will fall through the gaps. It is a basket that will hold loose peas tightly within itself, so if you were to pour loose peas into it, you can be confident that they will be retained there. It doesn't seem like there is anything larger than a lentil to be worried about. It is also great to know that when you are done with these baskets, they can just be stacked together, inside or outside (since they do not and another thing I like is that these baskets are so well put together, in general, that I know they'll last much longer than I will (if they don't get lost). It's only the handles on these baskets that are really a drawback. The best solution to stop them from unhooking from the baskets is to figure out how to stop them from unhooking. It is now inevitable that the handles will fall off the baskets whenever there is any slack in the handles. (Hence the docking *) Given how often we use these baskets, I still believe the money spent was well worth it, and I'm expecting to purchase two more. It's a start, hopefully it will turn out to be enough to stop us from fighting over these baskets all the time. The possibility exists. I love it!.
