What is the flat side of these?

I have a pair of plexiglas half-moon displays (No hollow sphere). Specifically, the sizes less than an inch (and to the right of that) look like they were poured into a mold, which means the backs A larger one may have been machined, as it is flatter and is probably made from a block of metal.
