In the same way my physical therapists ensure my (expensive) waterproof (supposedly) bandages actually stay dry over the wounds. The Tegraderm bandages are great for letting me swim early following knee or hip replacement, but they won't make me truly waterproof without a product like this to prepare the area around the incision.
