It is more effective. It's a little tricky to remove, but it appears to come off with warm water, soap, and a washcloth. However, this simply means that the material sticks to the areas where you want it to! I was given this product in the hospital during a long stay and used it all up, so I was relieved to discover that I could buy more. Above all other products I've tried, I recommend this one.
There have been no other products that have provided me with the same level of relief and healing as this one. Tucks stopped making hemorrhoidal ointment, so I started using it instead. It's a million times better than Tucks/Anusol's product!!.
