These are ridiculously expensive. Why aren't you able to use cupcake liners? Is there really that much of a difference between the two?

It all depends on the situation and what you're massing. We use cupcake papers or even cut up magazines for our first-year chemistry classes and outreach science fun labs. We use these in our microscale chemistry classes because everything has to be transferred.
