As a Critical Care EMS medic for five years, I have had the chance to see most tourniquets on the market, I have had the opportunity to use some of them, and my opinions about some of them are harsh. In cool weather, the metal winlass will keep hands nice and cool. It has a rough surface that will help with maintaining a firm grip in bloody or sweaty conditions. It appears to be made of a very durable material and has nice stitching. This was a quick and effective way for me to deploy it on myself.
Hopefully, I will never need to use this tourniquet, but if I have to, I would trust the Recon with my life and the lives of those close to me. My son, who is still in high school, attended a class on tourniquets and compressions called "Stop the Bleed. ". The Recon (orange) he now carries at school is for his son.
