I've kept the original tires, but it's in need of some stabilization. When a tire became stuck in a street crack, I fell. It gets the job done in general. However, I have my doubts.
Yes, you can take it off. But, to be honest, the basket makes it 10 100% more user friendly! You won't be able to hold or carry anything from room to room if this isn't the case. As I recovered from a broken fibula, this knee scooter came in handy. I even carried ET in my basket for Halloween;
Only when the break was engaged did I hear a squeak. There were no issues other than making sure the handle was securely fastened.

I live in a one-bedroom apartment that is divided into compartments. Even so, this scooter was a lot easier to use after my McBride Bunionectomy (I was non-ambulatory at the time). compared to crutches (weight bearing for 8 weeks). It's light enough that I was able to pick it up a little to get around sharp corners with ease. Sorry for the TMI, but even in my tiny bathroom (where there's no room for a k-cup) there's a k-cup. It was no problem turning it around, parking it next to the toilet, and picking it up. I also felt much safer getting my two 50-pound dogs on this scooter. When compared to the risk of tangles and falling while using crutches, dogs on leashes are a better option. br>br>So don't bother with crutches! When I first started riding the scooter, I never used them. ALSO! br>br> SKIP THE KNEE PAD THAT GOES WITH IT: Others have expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of padding on this scooter. I ordered the recommended faux sheepskin knee pad in response to those comments. br>I didn't find the scooter's cushion to be at all uncomfortable. In addition, the matching knee pad can only be washed by hand. The inner padding bunches up and can't be flattened out in the washing machine, so it can't be washed. It's a complete squander of funds.
After reading a few reviewers' complaints that the KneeRover was unstable and had caused them to fall, I ordered one a few days before my surgery. It was well packaged, and I was able to put it together in about 10 minutes without assistance. I started practicing with it right away and had no problems; I'm 56 years old, 5'3" tall, and 200 pounds, and I'm not the most coordinated person in the world, but I had no issues. On August 3rd, I had a total left hip replacement, and yesterday (October 5th), I had a screw placed in my right ankle, and I won't be able to put any weight on it for 10 days to 6 weeks, so falling is out! I'm really glad I bought it. Crutches are far less comfortable and time-consuming! I've already carried my medications, phone, and other miscellaneous items around the house in the basket. A seat cushion, a cup holder, and a headlight were all added. The headlight was ideal for trips to the bathroom at night! Overall, I'd recommend this as an alternative to crutches. If you have the chance, purchase it ahead of time so you can practice.
