The packaging does not state whether it should be taken orally, rectally, or under the arm; it simply states that it should be taken orally, rectally, or under the arm. It also claims to be a quick temperature reading of 10 seconds.

These thermometers came in twos for me. Brand and model are the same. One arrived in perfect condition, while the other arrived with a cellophane ribbon around the packaging indicating that it was complete, but when we opened the case, we discovered it was missing important items (that were included with the other thermometer that had never been opened before it arrived). It's a little silly to wrap a ribbon around a package that had clearly been opened prior to sale, indicating that it was complete. What a waste of time; the vendor should be reprimanded for such poor quality control.
This item is completely useless: It did nothing but beep when the button on it was pressed after it was removed from the package. Perhaps it's because, as other reviewers have pointed out, I'd rather have a working thermometer than theories about why something doesn't work because the battery doesn't have a plastic shield to keep it from being in a constant on state. br>The carelessness with which the product's packaging was created leads me to believe that the rest of the product received the same treatment. br>Order this thermometer only if you want a useless piece of plastic.
When I needed to replace the battery, however, I had a lot of trouble finding one locally. I ended up ordering it online, and you might want to do the same!.
I wish it came with the package. Instead of using the cheapest button battery they can find, they should use a premium button battery that will last for ten years. As is, replacing the battery is the first step in troubleshooting. The last thing a sick person wants to do is open up the thermometer, remove the button battery, go out and buy a new one, put the thermometer back together, and then check the temperature!.
We can't find any thermometers in stores right now, so I'm glad this became available. This is the third of its kind I've bought over the years, and it's simple and accurate.
The battery appeared to be dead (extremely low) and the device never worked properly. Replaced the battery, and it worked a little better, but it still wasn't accurate (compared to two other thermometers - see below). One was digital, and the other was mercury, both of which read the same number).
