The compass broke, and you couldn't even get a faint pencil circle with it. Also, the dial that holds the circle size does not stay in place; it slides around as you try to make the circle. I went back to the 1960s metal compass and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was still manufactured and that it functions perfectly. As a retired graphic designer, I'm familiar with design software and prefer to work with my hands rather than computers.
The compass does not lock in the way that it is supposed to. I couldn't draw a circle with it right out of the package because the pencil side moved around and didn't lock down tightly. I haven't used the protractor yet, but it appears to be in good working order. I wish we had been given the option of picking the color. It was a bright pink one that I bought for my son. It doesn't seem to make a difference because it's useless. I suppose what you pay for is what you get. We now have a second compass and only needed a larger protractor to complete the task, which we have done.
The product itself appeared to be in good condition, but the packaging (which was not an Amazon mailer) was damaged. The packaging for the product was ripped open. Wasn't sure if someone else had bought it and then returned it? I'm keeping it because it appears to be a good product. The compass appeared to be brand new and unused, while the protractor appeared to be older. I'm taking away a star because I'm not sure it was brand new.
I wish I had spent an extra dollar and purchased a different brand because I needed a compass to draw circles in my woodworking shop and thought this one would suffice. It's mostly made of plastic, and it came apart as I tightened it. I was able to substitute a metal bolt for the plastic piece, but I would have preferred not to.
This set is good value for money. The protractor works fine for me, but the compass is loose and does not maintain the radius while in use. I bought this set to help me make sewing patterns on regular printer paper, but I've discovered that I need to make an axis, measure the radius on all four axis lines, and adjust the compass as I pass each axis line because there doesn't appear to be a way to tighten it, and no matter how lightly I press on it, the radius changes as I work my way around the circle. I'm thinking of investing in a more durable compass with a tightening feature.
This isn't something I'd use for complex Fractors. However, for my transaction, it is ideal and extremely durable. I don't think these are going to sell like hotcakes. However, if you're looking for a reasonably priced Compass, this is the one!.
I was hoping for something blue or gray. I chose a bright pink color. br>So, I'm a little picky when it comes to color. To use, it's a little flimsy and unsteady. In this case, you get exactly what you pay for.
If you're looking for a compass that can be used in a variety of situations, this is the one for you. The protractor is a fantastic device. This isn't the compass for you if you want something that will last a long time. As a math teacher, I recommend getting a metal ruler or a flat ruler-style ruler. 'Security compass' is a style.
