Approximately 7/16" deep are the holes in the coupler. The coupler is just under 1 1/4" long.

However, I did not meet my expectations

I got it to do the job, but I had to modify it to use it for One collar sheared on the clamping screw while trying to clamp the screw around the shaft, because the clamping screw is so small. Drilling and tapping #8 screw, then drilling and tapping another screw for use as a #10 set screw was required. Initially, the spider was fine for preventing backlash, but it did not like the surge of torque under slight misalignment at around 2500rpm, melting from friction until it had backlash, and then biting through the softened material to chew it up into chunks. Failure to learn from the past In the meantime, the safe teeth of the couplers were still sufficient to twist up the other shaft, causing the collar to break until eventually allowing the carriage to spin. The backlash then began fracturing the coupler pair until the collar finally spun on the carriage. It took less than half an hour to see all this unfold.
